Assembly Operator

Up to £13.45 per hour | Temporary

Our client is an established manufacturer of precision optical and opto-mechanical components, supplying specialist markets including the defence and industrial sectors. As part of a period of continued production demand, they are looking to strengthen their assembly team with an Assembly Operator on a temporary basis, with strong potential to move to a permanent role for the right candidate.

The Role

This is a hands-on production role within a small, skilled team, assembling and bonding precision optical components to exacting specifications. It would suit someone with previous production or manufacturing experience who takes a methodical, detail-focused approach and is comfortable following detailed written procedures. Full training will be given, so a willingness to learn is just as important as prior experience.

Responsibilities for the Assembly Operator:

• Set up and operate production equipment in line with manufacturing practices and standard operating procedures
• Mix adhesives and prepare metal for optic bonding, then bond optical surfaces and substrates together
• Set optical sub-assemblies to the correct orientation and inspect optics and metalwork against specification
• Pack finished products and complete accompanying documentation, including history cards
• Follow the MRB process for any non-conforming parts and carry out AQL inspection where required
• Clean production equipment and work areas, and contribute ideas for continuous improvement

Requirements for the Assembly Operator include:

• GCSE Maths and English at Grade C (or equivalent)
• Previous experience in a production or manufacturing environment
• Ability to follow detailed written procedures and instructions accurately
• Good level of numeracy and literacy, with a methodical and detail-focused approach
• Comfortable working as part of a team or using your own initiative
• Flexible approach to shift patterns
