BDO is seeking an experienced SMSF Manager / Assistant Manager to join our team. In this role, you will manage the portfolio of Self-Managed Superannuation Fund (SMSF) clients, delivering high-quality accounting, compliance and advisory services while supporting the development of junior team members.

Working closely with internal stakeholders across Business Services and Private Wealth, you will play a key role in providing an exceptional client experience and ensuring SMSF obligations are met accurately and on time.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage SMSF client portfolio from commencement through to completion.

• Prepare and review SMSF financial statements, returns and workpapers.

• Ensure compliance with SMSF and taxation legislation.

• Coordinate audit requirements and liaise with auditor to resolve queries.

• Manage and monitor workflow, budgets, deadlines and client deliverables.

• Maintain accurate WIP reporting and billing readiness.

• Build strong client relationships and provide timely advice.

• Liaise with the ATO and other external stakeholders.

• Collaborate with internal teams to deliver integrated client outcomes.

• Identify and address compliance risks and process improvements.

• Provide coaching to junior team members, share technical knowledge and contribute to a positive team culture.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

• Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Commerce or a related discipline.

• CA or CPA qualification.

• Demonstrated management experience in SMSF accounting and compliance within a professional services environment.

• Strong knowledge of SMSF legislation, compliance requirements and Australian taxation concepts.

• Experience reviewing work, identifying issues and providing practical solutions.

• Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and competing priorities.

• Strong communication skills and the ability to explain technical information in a clear and practical manner.

• Experience using SMSF software.
