About this role

Reporting to the Dean, School of Nursing, the Assistant Professor of Nursing is a 10-month, non-tenure track position.  This position plays a vital role in delivering high-quality nursing education through classroom, laboratory, and clinical instruction. This contract-based position emphasizes teaching excellence and service, with limited research responsibilities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (including, but not limited to):

Essential duties:

Teaching and Instruction

  • Provide high-quality, student-centered instruction to the undergraduate and graduate nursing programs, encompassing classroom, laboratory, and clinical learning environments.
  • Collaborate with faculty to design, implement, and evaluate nursing curricula and learning experiences.
  • Develop course syllabi, exams, assignments, and instructional materials, including digital and audiovisual content.
  • Assess student performance through grading, feedback, and competency evaluations.
  • Provide academic advisement and schedule conferences to discuss their progress and support student success.
  • Oversee students in clinical environments to ensure safe patient care and foster clinical decision-making skills.

Service and Administration

  • Participate in faculty meetings, curriculum planning, and selection of course materials.
  • Serve on departmental, school, or university committees as assigned.
  • Partner with faculty, staff, and clinical site personnel to maintain a cohesive and supportive learning environment.
  • Promote a culture of equity, inclusion, and academic freedom, fostering a welcoming environment for all students and colleagues.

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver continuing education programs.
  • Promote interprofessional education and collaborative learning experiences.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned or directed to support departmental needs and align with the mission of the School of Nursing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (education/training and experience required):

Required:

  • Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN).
  • Active RN license and eligibility for licensure in Pennsylvania.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a registered nurse.

Preferred:

  • Doctoral degree (DNP or PhD).
  • Experience in clinical nursing education.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND/OR UNUSUAL HOURS: 

  • Evening teaching assignments may be required.
