What you'll do
- Provides assistive technology and/or occupational therapy services in accordance with students' Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Conducts assistive technology and occupational therapy evaluations to identify barriers to participation and determine appropriate tools, accommodations, and interventions that support access to the educational environment
- Develops written evaluation reports and recommendations and participates in eligibility, IEP, reevaluation, and other required meetings
- Collaborates with teachers, related service providers, administrators, families, and community agencies to support the effective implementation of assistive technology and occupational therapy services
- Recommends, configures, programs, customizes, and troubleshoots assistive technology devices, software, and adaptive equipment to meet individual student needs
- Provides training and ongoing technical assistance to educational staff, students, and families regarding the effective use of assistive technology devices, software, and accessibility features
- Consults with staff regarding assistive technology solutions, classroom accessibility, and strategies to increase student independence and participation
- Assists with the acquisition, inventory, deployment, maintenance, and tracking of assistive technology equipment and maintains related databases and documentation
- Develops instructional resources, guidance documents, presentations, and professional learning opportunities related to assistive technology, occupational therapy, accessibility, and inclusive practices
- Supports accessibility of digital instructional materials, educational technology platforms, and electronic documents in accordance with applicable accessibility standards
- Maintains accurate and timely documentation of evaluations, services provided, IEP compliance, Medicaid billing, and other required records
- Stays current with research, emerging technologies, evidence-based practices, and state and federal guidance related to assistive technology and occupational therapy

General Description:
The TWA - Assistive Technology Occupational Therapist is responsible for providing Assistive Technology (AT) and/or Occupational Therapy (OT) services to support students with disabilities in accessing and participating in their educational programs. Services are provided in accordance with Chesterfield County Public Schools (CCPS), Virginia Department of Education (VDOE), and federal special education regulations.Job Description:
Essential Job Functions:

Budgetary Responsibility:
This position has no budgetary responsibility.
Report Preparation:
Prepares numerous required reports, such as evaluations, progress reports, and IEP and Medicaid documentation.
Equipment Operation:
Operates personal computer, general office equipment, and specialized equipment pertaining to students with assistive technology needs
Contacts:
This position has regular contact with all levels of CCPS personnel, students, and parents, as well as various outside agencies for the purpose of identification and provision of services.
Work Direction/Supervision:
May provide supervision for graduate students, field placements, and/or Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants.
Decision Making:
High level of independent decision making.

Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here represent those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to use a telephone, to enter data into a computer terminal; to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear, understand speech and speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly at normal levels indoors and on the telephone. Frequent walking, standing, light lifting up to 25 pounds. Physical agility to drive, bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, walk and reach overhead. Frequent movement throughout the school facilities is required. Occasional lifting of objects up to 40 pounds and moving of students weighing up to 150 pounds with assistive equipment may be necessary. Occasional movement of students by wheelchair and other mechanical devices may be necessary. Occasional travel with students on field trips may be necessary.
Work Environment:
The employee regularly works in an office and a school setting. The noise level typically ranges from quiet to moderate, but may vary regularly. Exposure to potentially infectious diseases and bloodborne pathogens is possible. While performing the duties of this job, the employee travels to visit the participating schools and other facilities throughout the district.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Working knowledge of a broad range of AT tools and strategies. Extensive knowledge of the Individuals with Extensive knowledge of assistive technology service delivery within educational settings and the role of occupational therapy in supporting student access, participation, and independence. Thorough knowledge of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and other federal and state laws governing assistive technology and special education services. Demonstrated expertise in conducting assistive technology and occupational therapy evaluations using standardized and informal assessment tools to identify student needs and recommend appropriate interventions. Demonstrated ability to analyze student needs, develop evidence-based intervention plans, and provide effective direct and consultative services. Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, provide coaching and professional development to staff and families, manage assistive technology inventory and data systems, prioritize multiple responsibilities, and communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Proficient in the use of technology for documentation, data management, report writing, presentations, research, and communication.
