OUR STORY 

THE CHICAGO CUBS FRANCHISE The Chicago Cubs franchise, a charter member of Major League Baseball’s National League since 1876, has won the National League pennant 17 times and was the first team to win back-to-back World Series titles in the 1907 and 1908 seasons. In 2016, the Chicago Cubs made history again when the team won its first World Series in 108 years, ending the longest championship drought in North American sports. Known for its ivy-covered outfield walls, hand-operated scoreboard and famous Marquee, iconic Wrigley Field has been the home of the Chicago Cubs since 1916 and is the second oldest ballpark in Major League Baseball. In 2009, the Ricketts family assumed ownership of the Chicago Cubs and established three main goals for the organization: Win the World Series, Preserve and Improve Wrigley Field, and Be a Good Neighbor. 

HOW YOU’LL CONTRIBUTE 

The Chicago Cubs are seeking to hire multiple Associates in Baseball Technology for the 2027 Minor League season. During the season, Associates will be responsible for managing and operating our technology, as well as collecting, cleaning, manipulating, and delivering video and data for one of the Chicago Cubs’ minor league affiliates. As requested by coaching staff and baseball operations, Associates will analyze and research output from data collected throughout the season. 

This seasonal hourly position will start with remote training and responsibilities prior to the start of Spring Training, then transition to Mesa, Arizona at the team’s complex for the duration Spring Training before being assigned and deployed to a Chicago Cubs’ Minor League Affiliate location for the regular season. The Chicago Cubs will provide housing and some additional living expenses. 

Minor League Affiliate Locations Include:  

• Des Moines, IA (AAA) 

• Knoxville, TN (AA) 

• South Bend, IN (A+) 

• Myrtle Beach, SC (A) 

• Mesa, AZ (Rookie) 

THE DAY-TO-DAY: 

• Remote work and training prior to the start of Spring Training 

• Receive technical training in Arizona to operate core technologies and process data during Spring Training 

• Operate core technologies during individual practices, bullpens, and batting practice at Spring Training and affiliates 

• Diligently monitor Hawk-Eye and other data acquisition software during home games to ensure reliable in-game video and data collection 

• Calibrate and train pitches for use on advanced pitching machines 

• Operate BATS data collection software for select events 

• Ensure all collected data is mapped to complete and accurate metadata by utilizing software, supplemental video, and an understanding of baseball rules 

• Utilize technical expertise in video editing software to trim, map, and enhance videos 

• Maintain all technology and hardware at the affiliate, assisting with debugging and calibrating when applicable 

• Work with coaching staff and players to access video, data, and other needs 

• Administer specialized assessments, diligently recording results for analysis 

• Precisely mark keyframes of high-speed video for pitching and hitting 

• Travel with the team 

• Perform analysis of collected data as requested 

WHAT YOU’LL BRING: 

• Bachelor’s degree and/or strong professional experience in a technological field 

• Strong general understanding of technology and computer software 

• Ability to learn and master baseball technologies such as Hawk-Eye, Trackman, BATS, Rapsodo, Blast Sensors, etc. 

• Ability to prioritize and troubleshoot various technologies  

• Aptitude to learn new technologies 

• Effective communication, including ability to articulate technical topics 

• Strong organizational skills 

• Willing to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as necessary 

• Ability to travel for affiliate road games 

• Experience with network/cloud sharing video and data 

WHAT SETS YOU APART:  

• Working knowledge of advanced baseball statistics 

• Experience with statistical software (e.g., R, Python) 

• Experience with SQL 

• Passion for learning more about how to succeed in baseball 

• Fluency in Spanish 

• Previous work experience in baseball 

• Certification in Rapsodo, Blast or similar technologies
