What you'll do
- Translate discovered customer use cases and requirements (handed off from senior SEs or account teams) into working, customized demo environments and proofs of concept
- Build, configure, and script across Cisco's security portfolio — Hybrid Mesh Firewall, Secure Access & Identity, AI Security, XDR, SASE, and Hypershield — to represent real customer scenarios
- Use AI-assisted development tools and agents to automate demo builds, environment setup, and repetitive configuration tasks, shortening the time from requirement to working proof of concept
- Maintain, refresh, and troubleshoot demo/POC environments so they stay reliable and reusable across the team
- Partner closely with senior Sales Engineers to understand the "why" behind a solution design, not just the "what" — and flag technical gaps or better-fit approaches as you find them
- Document builds and configurations so environments can be handed off, reused, or extended by others on the team
- Collaborate cross-functionally with TAC, customer success, and partners when a build surfaces a product gap, bug, or integration question
- Take on a growing share of customer-facing work over time as your product and solution-design depth increases
What they're looking for
- A technical background — computer science, IT, engineering, or equivalent hands-on experience with 2-3 years of relevant work experience.
- Comfortable with programmability: scripting (Python or similar), APIs, automation tools, infrastructure-as-code, or network/security device programmability
- Practical experience using AI tools to design, build, or automate — coding assistants, agent frameworks, or AI-driven workflow automation — and a genuine interest in getting faster and better with them
- Strong troubleshooting instincts and comfort working in ambiguous, not-fully-specified environments
- Good communication skills — you'll need to translate technical decisions to both senior engineers and, eventually, customers
- Curiosity about cybersecurity and a desire to grow into a customer-facing Sales Engineering role
Nice to have
- Exposure to networking or security fundamentals (firewalls, identity/access, SASE, XDR concepts)
- Any Cisco, cloud, or security certification (or active pursuit of one)
- Experience with virtualization/lab platforms (e.g., dCloud, VMs, containers) used for building demo environments
- Prior internship, lab, or project experience building POCs, demos, or automation tooling

Cisco Systems | Sales Engineering – Cybersecurity (ASEAN)
About the Team
Our Cybersecurity Sales Engineering team partners with sales, TAC, customer success, and our partner ecosystem to design and deliver Cisco's security architecture across the ASEAN territory — spanning Hybrid Mesh Firewall, Secure Access & Identity, AI Security, XDR, SASE, and Hypershield. We work directly with customers to uncover their toughest security challenges and translate them into solutions they can see, touch, and trust before they buy.
We're a small, close-knit team, and every person on it multiplies what the rest of us can do. This role exists to give the team more hands on the build side of the house — turning validated use cases and requirements into working, customized demos and proofs of concept, so our senior SEs can spend more time where their experience matters most: in front of customers, designing complex solutions.
Position Summary
We're looking for an Associate Sales Engineer to join our security SE team as a technical builder. You'll work alongside senior SEs and account teams to take discovered use cases and requirements and turn them into tailored demonstrations, proof-of-concept environments, and automated builds that bring a proposed solution to life for the customer.
This is not a scripted-demo role. You'll be given a set of requirements — sometimes well-defined, sometimes rough — and you'll need to figure out how to build, configure, script, or automate your way to a working environment that proves the value of the design. You'll increasingly use AI-assisted tools to accelerate that build process: generating code, configuring agents, automating repetitive setup work, and iterating on demo environments faster than a manual build would allow.
Over time, as you build fluency with our security portfolio, you'll take on more of the solution-design conversation itself — this role is a deliberate on-ramp into full-scope Sales Engineering, not a permanent behind-the-scenes function.
