The Investor Relations (IR) team is primarily responsible for ongoing communication with the investment community including existing and prospective institutional shareholders, as well as sell side equity research analysts.  The team’s mandate also includes providing market intelligence to internal stakeholders.

The AVP, Investor Relations is an integral part of the IR team, and is responsible for developing and managing effective communications between Manulife and the investment community, including shareholders and financial analysts, with the objective of achieving a fair valuation for MFC shares. The incumbent will be involved with all IR activities including, quarter end reporting, and the implementation of our shareholder engagement program, as well as a series of marketing events. In this role, the AVP is expected to build and foster relationships with senior management across Manulife, including members of the GLT, Group Finance, Group Actuarial, Segment CFOs and Media Relations. In addition, the incumbent is expected to develop strong relationships with large institutional shareholders and financial analysts.

Position Responsibilities:

Primary responsibility for the preparation of investor communication material regarding quarterly financial results:

  • Lead the development and drafting of earnings press release, developing slides and speaking notes for the earnings conference call/webcast;

  • Collaborating with the Segment Finance and Strategy teams, Group Finance and Media Relations to develop the quarterly communication strategy and key messages;

  • Review and communicate to senior management the investment community’s sentiment and expectations for the quarter;

Lead the planning and implementation of a comprehensive IR marketing and shareholder engagement plan, including:

  • The identification of key global investor targets;

  • The annual development and implementation of a global IR marketing schedule;

  • Plan and implement investor relations marketing events;

  • Work with senior management to ensure the appropriate messages are included in all investor interactions;

  • Prepare and review supporting materials related to non-deal roadshows, investor conferences and Investor Days, including slides and speaking notes;

  • Participation at the IR events will require travel.

Review external financial disclosure documents for Group Finance and financial press releases for Media Relations to ensure investor needs are met. Play a leading role in communication with the investment community, including institutional shareholders and financial analysts:

  • The incumbent must quickly become well versed in and be able to articulate the strategic direction of our businesses around the world, the company’s performance and the key factors driving the results.

  • Work with the Head of Investor Relations to provide senior management and the Board of Directors with quarterly reports including institutional shareholder analysis and MFC share performance analysis.  

  • Develop and enhance processes & procedures to support an effective IR program. 

  • Manage relationships with external vendors.

  • Participate in ad hoc or special projects as required.

Required Qualifications:

  • Keeping abreast of changes in corporate disclosure policies and incorporate changes into quarterly and annual reports;

  • Will require some period of extended hours including evenings and weekends;

  • Will require occasional travel.

Salary range is expected to be between

$129,800.00 CAD - $241,200.00 CAD
