We have an exciting opportunity for a Bank Cover Worker - Chef to play a vital role in providing support at First Base Day Centre.

Position: Bank Cover Worker - Chef

Location: Brighton - First Base Day Centre.

Hourly Rate: £15.07 (Hourly Rate £13.45 plus 12.07% holiday pay)

Contract: Casual – zero hours contract

About the Project

First Base is a Day Centre in Brighton which provides an essential frontline service to people experiencing homelessness. We provide a range of services for clients, including: free meals, support to access accommodation; access to health and substance misuse services; managing benefit claims; and support to access to financial services.

About the Role

As a Bank Cover Worker Chef you will prepare and serve hot meals to clients of the Day Centre. You will have experience of working in a professional kitchen and knowledge of Food Safety procedures. You will be willing to undertake Food safety Level 2 and Allergy Awareness training. You will have the ability to prepare delicious and healthy meals that cater to a range of dietary requirements and preferences. You will be able to creatively utilise ingredients that are in stock to create meals, as well as supporting the management team in meal planning, stock rotation and ordering. You will have excellent customer service skills when serving food, and you will have the ability to support client participants in kitchen tasks during cooking groups.

Key Responsibilities:

· Prepare meals and serve them to clients (around 40 covers per day)

· Cater for different dietary requirements and tastes

· Work within Kitchen Safety Procedures and flag up any concerns that you become aware of

· Support the kitchen porter in their role

· Support the management team and administrator with meal planning, stock rotation and ordering

· Ability to creatively use ingredients in stock to create meals

· Lead client cooking groups and provide support and guidance to people who want to improve their catering skills.
