About this role

At Thales, we know technology has the ability to make our world more secure, sustainable, and inclusive – and that it’s all driven by human intelligence.

Because it takes human intelligence to build and power the systems and solutions that people depend on every day. So we stay curious and make space for diverse points of view. We share what we know and we challenge what’s possible.

From manufacturing and engineering to cybersecurity and space, we’re driving progress in some of the world’s most important industries – and working together to build a future we can all trust.

Our Above Water Systems team proudly supports the Royal Australian Navy by delivering integrated mission-critical solutions for multi-surface platforms.  We’re proud to bolster Australias sovereign capability through operational support to our defence partners. With ongoing training programs our people have room to grow and develop an impactful career with us.

YOUR ROLE

We are seeking experienced Blast & Paint Operators to join a unique defence program based in Perth, Western Australia. This permanent full-time role includes an exceptional opportunity to undertake specialist training for approximately 15 months at Pearl Harbour, Hawaii before returning to Perth to contribute long-term to Australian Navy projects.

WHAT’S ON OFFER

  • Permanent full-time employment

  • Specialist overseas training secondment in Pearl Harbour, Hawaii

  • Comprehensive relocation and international assignment support

  • Long-term career progression within the defence industry

YOUR EXPERIENCE

  • Proven experience in abrasive blasting, surface preparation, and industrial spray painting

  • Certificate III in Surface Preparation or equivalent trade qualification (highly desirable)

  • Willingness to relocate to Perth for ongoing employment

  • Ability to successfully complete required medical and dental assessments

An NV1 Defence Security Clearance is essential for this role. Applicants must be Australian citizens eligible to obtain and maintain an appropriate clearance. Additional information is available on the Australian Government Security Vetting Agency website:
http://www.defence.gov.au/AGSVA/

In some cases, candidates holding a current security clearance from certain foreign governments may have this clearance recognised by the Australian Government. The Australian Defence Trade Controls Act (DTCA) applies, and nationality may influence suitability.

WE ENCOURAGE YOU TO APPLY

If you’re ready to embrace this rare chance to develop international expertise, build specialist capabilities, and play a vital role in Australia’s future submarine fleet, we want to hear from you.

After applying, you will receive an acknowledgement email and personalised updates if you progress through the selection process. Pre-employment police checks will be required prior to employment offers.

It’s easy to dismiss the perfect opportunity if you don’t see yourself as the perfect fit. If this role feels right – no matter your background or personal circumstances – please introduce yourself or join our community. We’re committed to supporting a diverse workplace, and that starts here.

We’re proud to be endorsed by WORK180 as an Employer for All Women, but we know there’s always more we can do. We’ll continue to foster industry partnerships, employee resource groups (ERGs) and development opportunities to make Thales a genuinely equitable employer, for everyone.
