About this Role
The Data & Analytics team sits between the account managers, product and tech teams. We build the reports and dashboards the business runs on, and we are the people everyone comes to when a number does not tie.
This internship is a hands-on, get-into-the-data role. You will spend most of your time in Excel and Google Sheets, a meaningful share of it in SQL, and the rest figuring out how to make repetitive manual work less manual. The work is real and it goes live — there are no shadow projects here.
What You Will Actually Do
- Excel and Google Sheets work (the bulk of it) — cleaning and reconciling institute fee data, building pivot summaries, comparing exports from two systems and finding exactly where they disagree, and preparing files for bulk upload.
- Building configurations — setting up fee-structure and institute configuration sheets for new schools going live, validating them before they reach production, and fixing them when something looks off.
- Running and writing SQL - you will start by running existing queries and changing filters and date ranges; within a few weeks you should be writing your own joins and aggregations against our collections, invoices and payments tables.
- Supporting dashboards - refreshing datasets, sanity-checking dashboard numbers against the source data, and flagging when a visual and the raw data disagree.
- Ad-hoc requests from account managers - "how much did this institute collect last month?", "which parents bounced twice?" - small, fast and frequent.
- Making manual work less manual - if you find yourself doing the same thing three weeks in a row, we want you to propose a way to stop doing it.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- Strong Excel / Google Sheets: comfortable with pivot tables, XLOOKUP or INDEX-MATCH, SUMIFS and COUNTIFS, text functions for cleaning messy data, and conditional formatting. This is the skill we will test for most closely.
- Logical, structured thinking: given a messy file and a vague question, you can break it into steps and work out what to check first.
- Basic SQL: SELECT, WHERE, GROUP BY and JOIN. You do not need to be fluent; you need to be able to read a query without being afraid of it.
- Attention to detail: our numbers go to institutes and to the founders. A wrong figure costs far more than a slow one.
- Clear written communication: you will be answering questions over Slack for people who are not technical.
- Ownership: you ask when you are stuck, but you try first.
Nice to have (genuinely optional):
- Python or Google Apps Script basics
- Exposure to any BI tool - QuickSight, Metabase, Power BI or Tableau
- Any prior work with financial, accounting or transactional data
HOW WE WILL KNOW IT IS GOING WELL
- Month 1 : you can independently clean and reconcile a data export, and turn around simple Excel requests without hand-holding.
- Month 2: you are writing your own SQL for routine questions and building configurations that pass validation the first time.
- Month 3: you have automated or simplified at least one recurring manual task, and account managers come to you directly.
- Months 4 to 6: you own a recurring report or dashboard end to end. You run it, you are the one who catches when it breaks, and the business asks you about it rather than your manager.

SELECTION PROCESS
Shortlisted candidates will be sent a take-home assignment (Excel, business logic and SQL, about 3 hours), followed by an interview where you walk us through your own working.
