Capital Accountant Location: Leicestershire Contract: Temporary (3 months) Salary: £24.34 umbrella / £21.92 PAYE Inclusive / £19.56 PAYE Exclusive Start Date: ASAP Contact: rachel.burgess@servicecare.org.uk Job Description Service Care Solutions are recruiting on behalf of a local authority in Leicestershire for a Capital Accountant to join the team on a temporary basis. The postholder will support the financial accounts process, applying specialist knowledge in corporate finance, government policy and legislation. Key Responsibilities Prepare and review working papers supporting the Statement of Accounts, ensuring accuracy, quality and efficiency. Respond to external audit queries, including technical capital accounting matters, audit sampling requests, and supporting documentation Complete key balance sheet reconciliations and assist with quarterly capital monitoring reports, government returns, and grant claims. Apply specialist knowledge of corporate finance, local authority finance legislation, and government policy to deliver urgent accountancy tasks within deadlines. Candidate Criteria Qualified accountant, with proven experience in capital accounting, ideally within a local authority. Strong technical knowledge of local government accounting requirements, statutory accounts preparation, and relevant financial legislation Experience liaising with external auditors and managing technical accounting queries with confidence Excellent analytical, organisational, and communication skills, with the ability to prioritise a demanding workload and meet tight deadlines.
