YOUR MISSION

The Chief Accountant leads and develops the local accounting team, taking full ownership of statutory accounting and tax compliance in Kazakhstan in accordance with IFRS and local standards. This role ensures complete tax audit readiness, serves as the primary liaison during routine state tax reviews, and maintains effective relationships with tax authorities and external advisors.

THE JOURNEY 

• Lead, mentor, and effectively manage the local accounting team, maintaining a stable work environment and supporting their ongoing professional development.
• Lead the development, formalization, and annual update of the company's local accounting policy and tax policy.
• Streamline data flows between local sales channels, invoicing, and ERP systems to reduce manual processes.
• Maintain audit-ready documentation, conduct regular reviews of local tax workflows, and manage routine state tax audits to minimize exposure and penalties.
• Collaborate with external outsource firms and advisors for the accurate preparation and timely filing of tax returns.
• Optimize month-end closing routines to shorten cycle times, consistently meeting both local statutory filing deadlines and HQ deadlines with high data accuracy.
• Oversee high-volume transaction processing and billing workflows to ensure operational accuracy and compliance.

Qualifications

WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE RIDE

• Experience of successfully leading accounting teams.
• Relevant experience in high-volume transactional tech platforms, fintech, telecom, or large retail/FMCG.
• Experience preparing for and defending state tax audits, as well as working effectively with external tax consultants.
• Advanced proficiency in ERP systems (1C: Enterprise 8.3) and experience collaborating with 1C developers.
• Strong data analytics skills (advanced Excel, Pivot Tables, Power Query).
• Higher degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Audit.
• Fluent English (C1/C2) for daily cross-border communication and reporting to global teams.
• Professional fluency in Kazakh is a strong asset for local regulatory authority interactions and tax reviews. 
• Active Professional Accountant of Kazakhstan certification.
• Full ACCA membership or DipIFR holder (or currently pursuing upper-level papers) would be a big advantage.
• Certified Tax Advisor is a strong plus.
