About this role

Company Description:

Swift Underground specializes in utility infrastructure construction and is based in Steinbach, Manitoba. We use industry-leading equipment and technologies to construct and install fibre optic cabling and conduit, sewer and water infrastructure, and geothermal ground loops across Western Canada and Ontario.


Position Summary:

We are seeking a reliable and experienced Class 3 Driver with Air Brake Endorsement to join our construction crews in a casual part-time basis.

This position is responsible for picking up, transporting, and delivering construction materials, tools, and equipment between our yard, suppliers, and active job sites. Hours will be scheduled as needed based on operational and project requirements.

This position will require you to be able to travel for out-of-town projects in Western Canada and Ontario. Tools and equipment are provided.

Our ideal candidate must be flexible with their time, dependable, and comfortable working in active construction environments.


Essential Job Functions:

  • Pick up and deliver construction materials, tools, and equipment to and from job sites, suppliers, and company facilities.
  • Safely operate Class 3 vehicles with air brakes while pulling a variety of trailers.
  • Load, secure, transport, and unload materials and equipment in accordance with applicable safety and transportation requirements.
  • Complete and maintain required electronic logs (e-logs/electronic log books) and other driver documentation when necessary.
  • Use equipment such as Forklifts and Skid Steers to assist in the loading and unloading of materials.
  • Safely back, maneuver, and position vehicles and trailers in construction yards, job sites, and other potentially confined or challenging locations.
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
  • Maintain communication with foremen, supervisors, and project managers regarding delivery schedules and job requirements.
  • Keep assigned vehicles clean and in good operating condition.
  • Work scheduled shifts, including overtime, based on project timelines and operational needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Must be able to travel to out-of-town projects.

 

Position Qualifications:

  • Valid Manitoba Class 3 (or Class 1) driver's license with Air Brake endorsement.
  • Clean and acceptable driving record.
  • Previous experience operating Class 3 vehicles and pulling trailers in a construction, transportation, or similar environment is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of safe vehicle operation, trailer connections, load securement practices, and transportation requirements.
  • Ability to safely load, secure, and unload various materials and equipment.
  • Ability to work independently and manage assigned tasks and delivery schedules.
  • Strong attention to safety and safe driving practices.
  • Comfortable working with and around heavy equipment and in active construction environments.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including assisting with loading and unloading materials when required.
  • Reliable and flexible availability, as hours will vary based on operational requirements.

 

Compensation:

Beginning salary of $20-28/hr based on experience.

Casual, part-time employment with hours scheduled on an as-needed basis.

Wage increases and advancement opportunities are available based on performance and skill development.
