Cleveland Clinic’s H62/H63 Neurology Stepdown Unit provides top-quality patient care to diverse populations of neurological and medical-surgical patients. Caregivers in this unit care for young adult, adult, and geriatric patients with varying diagnoses of conditions, such as ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes, subdural hematomas, status epilepticus/seizures, brain tumors, neuromuscular disorders, and spinal injuries. Complex neurological procedures, such as intracranial pressure monitoring, seizure monitoring, lumbar punctures, blood transfusions, corpak placements, cervical traction placements and central/arterial line placement, are commonly done in this unit.
A caregiver in this position works PT, nights, 7:00pm—7:30am.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
A High School Diploma or GED
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) within new hire period OR American Red Cross
One year of recent, full-time patient care experience OR a nursing student who has completed at least one clinical rotation as part of an accredited nursing school program OR military experience as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W) or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1)
Physical Requirements:
- Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye-hand coordination; involves extensive standing and walking.
- Medium Work - Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force rarely, and/or 0 to 50 pounds of force occasionally to move objects.
- Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.
Personal Protective Equipment:
- Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
