Full description from employer

CALLING ALL GAMERS!

We're currently recruiting a mentor to run some of our online clubs that you will run remotely between our core hours (3.30 pm until 7 pm, Monday to Friday - extended and weekend hours available).

Are you passionate about gaming and tech? Do you want to help introduce children to the diverse, exciting world of coding?

Our mission is to introduce children (and grown-ups!!) to the diverse world of coding by running exciting, online clubs with individually tailored, challenges and games.

As a club’s mentor, you’ll use the tools we give you, as well as your infectious enthusiasm, to inspire young people to develop their love of coding and technology. You'll use Scratch, which is like putting code together like lego blocks, you don't need to be a pro coder at all, but you should find it interesting and be willing to learn this simple interface.

We're currently recruiting mentors for our Game Dev Club mentoring teams!

Successful candidates will also be offered additional hours at new online clubs.

Our ideal candidate:

- Passionate about technology.
- Is a keen gamer.
- Loves working with children and helping them learn new skills.
- Great at communicating and able to make learning fun.
- Strong IT literacy. Not specifically in code - we use a simple drag and drop interface, and you'll get lots of training on how to use this.
- Confident around children.
- Enjoy games and have some idea of what makes games fun, be it boss fights, high scores or new heroes
- Available during our core hours of Monday to Friday afternoons, between 3.30 pm and 7 pm, during term time (there are also other opportunities - outside of these core hours).
- A creative personality, and can come up with original ideas for our new mini-projects and activities.
- 'Modder' mentors would need a knowledge of Python. 'Hacker' mentors would not need this.

Duties:

- Nurturing and supporting the children’s coding development and creations.
- Assisting in the running of the online platform in the form of replying to messages from children asking about their code blocks (we use Scratch).
- Aiding the content creation process by carrying out proofing and data entry tasks.

Must-haves:

- Reliable and professional.
- Infectious enthusiasm.

Nice to have's (not essential):

- Experience with CRM software.
- Some teaching or coaching experience would be handy.
- In-depth knowledge of gaming (Minecraft, Pokémon and Roblox)

We provide:

- Full training program and support.
- All mentors will require a DBS check, which we will do.
- Regular part-time work with the opportunity for further hours as we expand.
- A great sense of achievement getting children ready for our growing technical world.
- Upskilling opportunities in professional games engines, python, typescript etc + opportunities to use these if you already have these skills

Benefits:

- Casual dress.
- Remote working.
- Company laptop.
- Involvement with a successful and fast-growing start-up.
- Joining a friendly, like-minded team within a relaxed company culture.

Start Date: ASAP

Part-time hours: Flexible

Job Type: Part-time 10-15.5 hours

Wage: £13 per hour
