The Role

This is not a seat in an established accounting department, it's a chance to build one. You'll be an early finance hire working directly with the CFO. Together we're designing an automation-first accounting function: an AI-native general ledger, warehouse funding optimization, and a modern loan origination system, integrated with our proprietary command center, under a controls framework built for SOC 1 Type II reporting and, ultimately, operate at a public-company 404(b) level of assurance.

You'll own day-to-day accounting operations end to end and then automate them. Every process you run is a process you'll help redesign for scale.

What You'll Own

• Core operations — Full-cycle AP/AR, GL accrual accounting, and vendor mapping across the finance stack; own the monthly close calendar and drive it shorter every quarter.

• Loan lifecycle — Loan-level accounting and diligence from lock to settlement — funding reconciliations, warehouse line activity, gain-on-sale, and investor settlement.

• Controls — Execute and document internal controls designed for SOC 1 Type II reporting; partner with the CFO on IT audit design, evidence automation, and audit readiness.

• Reporting — Build state-level and loan-level production metrics and ad hoc analyses in an AI-native reporting layer; deliver board- and lender-ready outputs.

• Automation — Identify manual work and kill it — configure integrations, define system requirements, and test automation across the GL, LOS, warehouse funding, and command center systems.

• Judgment — Make sound calls independently on classification, accrual, and process questions; escalate with a recommendation, not just a question.

Who You Are

• 5–10 years of progressive experience with operational mortgage or structured credit depth — you've worked loan-level: a private credit fund managing non-QM pools, a whole-loan trading or aggregation shop, a mortgage originator's capital markets/accounting group, or similar.

• Command of the FASB codification where it meets mortgages — ASC 310/320/860 (transfers and servicing), ASC 820/825 (fair value), derivatives and lock pipelines (ASC 815), CECL — and the judgment to shore up reporting where policy doesn't exist yet.

• Big 4 foundation strong plus, not prerequisite; a top-university record and demonstrated rigor matter more than pedigree.

• Proven operator at a high level — you've owned a close, an audit, or a system implementation, not just supported one.

• Energized by AI-native tooling — you want to automate your own job's busywork, and you see an AI-first GL as an advantage, not a threat.

• A builder's temperament: comfortable with ambiguity, willing to grind, and excited to learn from leadership with a proven track record.
