Corporate EHS Manager, ANZ, Global Corporate Environmental, Health, Safety & Impact (EHSI)

We are hiring an EHS Manager to lead the Corporate EHS programs across Australia and New Zealand (ANZ). The successful candidate will be an experienced, innovative, hands-on and customer-obsessed individual, passionate about EHS, and able to identify, coordinate and drive improvements by engaging stakeholders across multiple sites and jurisdictions.

The EHS Manager will report directly to the Regional EHS Manager, APAC (Asia Pacific including Japan). This role requires a deep understanding of the harmonised Work Health and Safety (WHS) framework in Australia and the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 (HSWA) in New Zealand.

The EHS Manager will be responsible for implementing Global EHS policies while ensuring compliance with all applicable Australian and New Zealand federal, state, and territory regulations. The role will lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce risk and ensure a safe and healthy working environment for our Associates. They will demonstrate the ability to build trust from the corporate business teams and inspire change.

The EHS Manager must be an effective communicator and send clear, concise and consistent messages, both verbally and in writing. You will instruct and train business leaders on Amazon EHS policies and assist site teams in incorporating our EHS standards. You will work to identify good practices and incorporate these standard methodologies into our standards to continuously improve the EHS landscape.

Key job responsibilities
- Drive EHS strategic improvements across ANZ in partnership with the Regional EHS Manager, APAC, developing region-specific programs aligned to Amazon's Global EHS strategy.
- Ensure compliance with Australian WHS legislation, New Zealand's HSWA 2015, state/territory codes of practice, and Amazon EHS policies; monitor legislative changes and advise the business accordingly.
- Cooperate with regulators (SafeWork Australia, WorkSafe NZ) and establish internal audit processes aligned to global and regional objectives.
- Lead workplace hazard identification, risk assessment, and control using the hierarchy of controls; manage psychosocial risk programs and investigate incidents to determine root causes and corrective actions.
- Manage EHS vendor partners, liaise with cross-functional teams (Legal, HR, Facilities, Crisis Management), and support HSR/HSC obligations under WHS legislation.
- Deliver EHS training programs covering psychosocial hazards, emergency preparedness, ergonomics, and officer due diligence; facilitate worker consultation mechanisms.
- Develop and maintain emergency management plans aligned to AS 3745 and NZ Building Code; coordinate drills and ensure first aid provisions at all sites.
- Support environmental sustainability initiatives including waste management and energy efficiency compliance.
- Prepare and manage ANZ EHS budgets and provide regular performance reporting to regional and local leadership.

About the team
The Corporate Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) team focuses on the health and safety of all Amazonians, temporary associates, and contractors in corporate sites globally, managed by the Global Real Estate and Facilities (GREF) organization. We also take responsibility for non-operations sites and subsidiaries, as required.

Basic Qualifications

- Experience working to appropriate health & safety standards and regulations
- Experience in stakeholder management, including influencing executive level global leaders
- Speak, write, and read fluently in English
- 6+ years of experience in EHS management, corporate safety, facilities management, or a related field, with a demonstrable focus on the ANZ regulatory environment
- In-depth understanding of Australian WHS legislation (harmonised Model WHS Act and Regulations) and New Zealand's Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 (HSWA)
- Availability to travel within Australia and New Zealand, and across the APAC region as required
- Bachelor's degree in Health and Safety or equivalent experience

Preferred Qualifications

- Master's degree or Graduate Diploma in WHS, Environmental Management, or related field
- Certified OHS Professional (ChOHSP) via AIHS, or equivalent HASANZ registration in New Zealand
- ISO 45001 Lead Auditor qualification
- Experience managing psychosocial risk programs, including compliance with WHS Codes of Practice
- Experience in a fast-paced organisation with multi-site/multi-jurisdictional responsibilities
- Excellent communication skills with ability to collaborate with senior leadership
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; proficient in Microsoft Office
- Ability to manage multiple sites and work remotely across time zones
- Membership of a professional WHS body (e.g., AIHS, HASANZ, IOSH)
- Working knowledge of environmental management frameworks (e.g., ISO 14001) and Return to Work/Workers' Compensation processes
