About the Role

We are currently seeking a reliable, confident and enthusiastic Cover Supervisor to work within secondary schools across Bradford. The role offers flexible temporary, part-time and full-time opportunities, making it suitable for experienced Cover Supervisors as well as individuals looking to develop their experience within education.

The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising pupils and delivering pre-set work in the absence of the regular classroom teacher, while maintaining a positive and productive learning environment.

Day-to-Day Work

Your typical day may include:

• Supervising classes in the absence of the regular teacher.

• Delivering pre-prepared lesson plans and ensuring pupils complete assigned work.

• Managing classroom behaviour and maintaining a calm, focused learning environment.

• Taking registers and following school procedures.

• Supporting pupils with their work and answering questions where appropriate.

• Ensuring pupils remain engaged and on task throughout the lesson.

• Providing clear instructions and maintaining high expectations for behaviour.

• Managing different classes and year groups throughout the school day.

• Reporting any significant behavioural or safeguarding concerns to the appropriate member of staff.

• Supporting pupils with additional needs where required.

• Working alongside teaching staff and other support staff.

• Following school policies, safeguarding procedures and health and safety requirements.

• Completing basic administrative tasks associated with cover lessons when required.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide effective supervision of pupils across different classes and year groups.

• Maintain good classroom management and promote positive behaviour.

• Ensure pupils have access to and understand the work provided.

• Create a safe, inclusive and positive learning environment.

• Build professional relationships with pupils and school staff.

• Adapt to different schools, subjects and classroom environments.

• Follow safeguarding procedures and promote the welfare of all pupils.

• Communicate effectively with school staff regarding lesson progress and pupil behaviour.

Requirements

• Previous experience working with children or young people is desirable.

• Experience within a school or education setting is advantageous.

• Strong classroom and behaviour management skills.

• Confident communication skills and the ability to give clear instructions.

• Ability to work independently and use initiative.

• Reliable, flexible and professional approach.

• Enhanced DBS clearance is required or willing to obtain one.

• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
