The Role

As a Staff Accountant and CPA Articling Student, you will receive practical experience in assurance, accounting, and taxation while progressing through increasingly complex assignments under the guidance of experienced engagement professionals.

 

You will begin by developing foundational competencies through activities such as testing transactions and account balances, completing assigned sections of audit, review, and compilation engagements, preparing personal and corporate tax returns, completing bookkeeping assignments, and using Caseware and CaseView to organize files and prepare financial statements.

 

As your knowledge and experience grow, your responsibilities will progress to more complex audit and tax areas, including revenue and variance analysis, engagement scoping, process walkthroughs, internal control documentation, advanced financial statement preparation, corporate tax files, and increasingly difficult personal tax returns. You will also take on greater responsibility for resolving engagement queries, communicating with file leads and clients, and completing work with increasing independence and professional judgment.

 

This role provides a structured progression from closely guided foundational assignments to more advanced work requiring increased technical proficiency, accountability, professional judgment, and independence. The experience is designed to support the development of the technical and enabling competencies expected of a CPA candidate.
