What you'll do

  • Independently prepare high-quality quantitative and qualitative credit reviews, including ESG-related analyses, on fixed income investment securities and counterparties.
  • Analyze a wide range of data sources, such as investor presentations, financial results, rating agency reports, and other public information sources (e.g., media) to gather key information and identify trends.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert on specific securities, counterparties, and/or sectors within Central 1’s fixed income universe and provide relevant insights at internal meetings.
  • Provide quarterly earnings updates to the Portfolio Managers.
  • Produce a monthly ESG dashboard.
  • Represent Central 1 at external meetings (investor roadshows, investor presentations, and market/economic updates) and provide feedback, updates, and insights.
  • Committed to continuous process improvement.
  • Implement automation including coding, data access, and use of AI.
  • Work within the investment mandate and be able to recognize and report exceptions to policies and standards, when appropriate.
  • Work closely with the Portfolio Managers, the Money Market desk, risk management, and other business lines.
  • Maintain meticulous documentation to support the credit analyses and investment recommendations.
  • Perform other duties as required.

  • Minimum of three years of work experience, ideally in the credit union system, banking, or finance industry with exposure to investments and risk management.
  • A degree in commerce, business studies, or another quantitative field. Degrees in other subjects may be considered if the candidate can demonstrate competence in quantitative and/or business areas, either through formal education or through work experience.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuing education, including pursuit of an accounting or CFA designation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office. The incumbent must also be able and willing to develop an understanding of and work with technological systems.
  • Be able to adapt and respond to changing priorities and business needs.
  • Ability to express ideas clearly and logically and to formulate, present, and defend an argument calmly and reasonably while remaining open to differing views.
  • Excellent writing skills and attention to detail, with the ability to accurately synthesize and distil information from a number of written, verbal, and online sources.
  • Advanced quantitative capabilities and demonstrated financial modelling skills are required.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Awareness of Central 1’s business needs and the ability to collaborate within the Treasury & Portfolio Management team and other departments in a curious and professional manner, including a willingness to engage in courageous conversations.

Job Summary:

We're looking for a Credit & Financial Analyst to join our Treasury & Portfolio Management team. The team manages a fixed income investment portfolio that supports liquidity for the credit union system while balancing risk and generating strong returns.

In this role, you'll work closely with Portfolio Managers to evaluate investment opportunities through credit, financial, and ESG analysis, helping support sound investment decisions. You'll also have the opportunity to contribute to projects and process improvements that enhance portfolio management and investment performance.

This role can be based in either the Greater Vancouver area, BC or the Greater Toronto Area, ON

What you'll be doing:

Salary range: $65,000-$80,000

The salary represents the job rate determined for the successful candidate who is fully competent in the role. The actual salary will vary depending on market conditions and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training.
