What you'll do

  • Design and deliver new supermarket developments and refurbishment fit out projects from concept through to completion, ensuring outcomes align with retailer requirements, project budgets and Metcash standards.
  • Manage the review, coordination and approval of projects, ensuring compliance with internal processes, governance requirements and best-practice retail design standards.
  • Collaborate with retailers, developers, architects, engineers, consultants, contractors and internal stakeholders to develop practical, innovative and customer-focused retail solutions.
  • Review and coordinate design and construction documentation to ensure compatibility with approved store fit-out requirements, tenancy obligations, Australian Standards and regulatory requirements
  • Conduct site investigations, detailed audits, measure-ups / laser scan captures, feasibility assessments and space planning analysis to support development proposals and optimise store performance
  • Analyse store layouts and space utilisation to improve customer experience, operational efficiency and commercial outcomes for independent retailers.
  • Provide expert design advice on store planning, customer flow, equipment, joinery, food preparation areas, signage and operational requirements throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Present design concepts, feasibility studies and recommendations to retailers and key stakeholders, influencing project decisions and achieving successful outcomes

  • Tertiary qualifications in Architecture, Interior Design or a related design discipline.
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in supermarket, convenience or retail design and documentation, preferably within a similar client-side, consultancy or retail design environment.
  • High-level proficiency in Autodesk Revit and AutoCAD, with Revit family creation experience advantageous.
  • Experience with Enscape or similar visualisation software, supported by a portfolio demonstrating design, documentation and presentation capability.
  • Demonstrated understanding of supermarket design methodologies, Australian Standards, NCC building regulations and food safety requirements.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects concurrently, balancing competing priorities, deadlines and stakeholder expectations.
  • Strong communication, presentation and relationship management skills, with the ability to influence outcomes and build trusted partnerships.
  • Experience collaborating with retailers, developers, architects, consultants, councils, builders and internal stakeholders to successfully deliver retail projects.
  • A collaborative and solutions-focused mindset, supported by strong organisational, analytical and time-management skills.

  • Candidates with broader project leadership experience will be highly regarded.

We're looking for a Retail Design Manager to bring innovative supermarket and convenience store concepts to life. From new store developments to major refurbishments, you'll play a key role in creating functional, customer-focused retail environments that support our retailers' success and strengthen local communities across Australia.

In this Role, You Will:
