Job Summary

Summary<br>The CT Technologist is responsible for performing diversified duties in the CT section of the Radiology Department.

This position is part of the 1199SEIU Bargaining Unit at Cooley Dickinson Hospital.

This position reports to the Supervisor, CT, and operates within established organizational and departmental policies and procedures.<br><br>Does this position require Patient Care?<br>Yes<br><br>Essential Functions<br>-Must be able to effectively interact appropriately to an individual’s intellectual level and physical ability including infants, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients. <br>
-Operate equipment using standards or following prescribed procedures and report any malfunctions. <br>
-CT scan patients, recognize the desired information pattern and record. <br>
-May be required to do quality control duties. <br>
-Participate in reviewing interpretation of various daily scans with the Radiologist. <br>
-Interview patients in order to obtain information pertinent to the examination performed. <br>
-Explain examination to patient. <br>
-Review patient’s medical history; ask questions pertinent to exam and to the administration of IV contrast. <br>
-Explain risks and benefits. <br>
-Obtain consent for exam and administration of IV contrast, give patient exam preparation, position patient, and possibly transport patient from and to the unit. <br>
-Schedule patients and assure effective movement of same to keep within the scheduled work load. <br>
-Image exams as required, assuring high quality images. <br>
-Perform various imaging tasks. <br>
-Save images by archiving and recalling images as needed. <br>
-Use cost effective judgment and measures when producing images for interpretation by the radiologist. <br>
-Prepare exam for interpretation by radiologist. <br>
-Maintain demonstrated proficiency in the conscious sedation policy and be able to take the necessary steps to assure continuum of patient care. <br>
-Recognize and understand the specific use of all special procedures, catheters, needles, and surgical instruments as related to CT procedures. <br>
-Start an intravenous line and inject contrast material under the direction of the Radiologist and within hospital policy. <br>
-Will be observed on a yearly basis, by a radiologist, initiating an IV line. <br>
-Remain available to cover the CT area on an on-call basis 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on a rotational basis and/or for emergencies. <br>
-Accomplish and document yearly in-servicing on administration of contrast materials and contrast reactions. <br>
-Use and train others on the Radiology Information System. <br>
-Must take charge of department as deemed necessary by the CT Team Leader. <br>
-Assist with student training as necessary. <br>
-Maintain established hospital and departmental policies and procedures, objectives, confidentiality, quality improvement program, compliance, safety, infection control, and environmental standards. <br>
-Maintain professional growth and development through attendance at seminars, workshops, conferences or in-services, professional affiliations, or journals to stay abreast of current trends in field of expertise. <br>
-Meet annual competency and retraining requirements. <br>
-Attend meetings as required. <br>
-Perform other functions/duties as requested. <br>

 

Education Associate's Degree Radiology required Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? Licenses and Credentials Computed Tomography (ARRT) [R.T.(CT)(ARRT)] - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) required Radiologic Technologist and Technician [State License] - Generic - HR Only required Experience One (1) to three (3) years experience as a CT Tech preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
