D&E 3D Prototyping Competence Engineer

Job Mission

As a Design and Engineering (D&E) Lab Technician, this role will support product development by performing hands-on build, prototyping, proof-of-concept, diagnostic and troubleshooting testing, of electrical and mechanical systems, in a consistent, repeatable, safe and efficient manner. Another key responsibility is to support at least one of ASML’s development labs which includes maintaining testing equipment, instrumentation, and tooling in a ready state, including but not limited to calibration tracking, configuration management of test stands and test equipment, and safety monitoring as well as other tasks in support of projects and production operations.  The third primary responsibility is ownership, planning, and scheduling activities within the lab, and maintaining the lab with a 5S environment. Basic computer skills are required for test stand operation, as well as for scheduling and communicating with customers.

This position may require access to controlled technology, as defined in the Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. § 730, et seq.). As a condition of employment, qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such controlled technology prior to beginning work. Lab Management and Coordination Responsibilities: 

• Serve as the owner (i.e., steward) of one or more ASML D&E laboratories.
• Process requests for lab space, lab equipment, or lab technician project support received through the Wilton D&E Lab Request App or as assigned.
• Maintain proactive communication with lab customers regarding Lab Request status, scheduling, unanticipated circumstances, or needed changes to their tests.
• Support, train, and supervise users on the correct use of communal lab equipment.  (Note: Lab Ownership does not equate to Tool Ownership—many Tools within D&E Labs have Tool Owners that are not Lab Owners.) 
• Support the setup and operation of test equipment, data collection, and analysis.
• Actively participate in regular alignment and/or lab operation excellence meetings.
• Work without direct supervision and manage priority of multiple tasks.
• Maintain positive attitude and role model ASML values of Collaborate, Challenge, and Care.
• Provide cross-lab support to colleagues as needed.
• Promote the use of the HTC SharePoint page to inform customers of lab Ways of Working (WoW) and space request processes.
• Review and keep the information on the lab’s SharePoint page current and accurate.
• Work with Office and Lab Space Support to keep floor plan up-to-date.
• Approve Lab Access Requests on a timely manner, enabling qualified requestors to gain badge access to the lab.
• Ensure project activities are appropriately identified with signage (e.g., the 1st page of lab request).
• Operate hoisting /lifting equipment, where appropriate and when properly trained and authorized.
• Maintain certification and operate as an Informed Electrical Worker (IEW).
• Purchase general-use lab supplies, consumables, and support equipment.
• Ensure lab equipment and facilities are in good working order and coordinate repairs when required.
• Maintain the calibration status of the lab and lab equipment per ASML and ISO requirements.
• Maintain equipment inventory. 
• Enable lab technicians and lab users to follow ASML WoW, PPE, 5LSR, Green Tag, LOTO, and other safety policies.
• Align with EHS to ensure clarity regarding required safety trainings prior to granting lab access.
• Perform safety and housekeeping audits and respond to findings in a reasonable time frame.
• Store, handle, and dispose of project-related materials in accordance with applicable procedures and requirements.
• Maintain test benches, prototypes, and miscellaneous hardware. 
• Promote 5S+1 (Sort, Set, Shine, Standardize, Sustain, and Safety), keeping the laboratory safe and organized.

 
Technical Responsibilities: 

• Read, understand, and execute using wiring diagrams, schematics, blueprints, and   electrical/mechanical technical documentation.
• Assemble, wire, and commission test stands and/or electrical cabinets, where appropriate. 
• Use standard mechanical and electrical tools and/or gauges.
• Fabricate and/or assemble advanced mechanical and/or electrical assemblies/functional models (FUMO), where appropriate.
• Apply an analytical and pragmatic approach to troubleshooting.
• Apply knowledge to solve problems according to documented procedures or professional expertise, as needed.
• Identify, initiate, and support continuous improvement activities / optimize assigned project activities.
• Specify and operate advanced instrumentation (mixed-signal oscilloscopes, mechanical alignment and metrology tools, programmable power supplies, climatic chambers, optical alignment tools, thermal test equipment, data acquisition modules, etc.)
• Comply with applicable UL, OSHA, and NFPA standards and regulations.

3D Rapid Prototyping Responsibilities

• Pre-process and run laser-cut and 3D print files.
• Post-process fabricated prototypes, including material removal, threaded insert installation, and SLA print washing.
• Sort parts by jobs and deliver them to the designated pick-up area.
• Order and maintain material stock, including filament, threaded inserts, laser-cutting materials, spare parts, and solvent.
• Ensure proper handling and disposal of materials and solvents.
• Perform machine maintenance, including lubrication, cleaning, part replacement/adjustment, and software updates.
• Coordinate outsourcing of jobs to external rapid prototyping suppliers, as needed.
• Perform simple 3D model modification.
• Build simple jigs.
• Provide technical consultation for rapid prototyping (manufacturability, design).

Education and experience

High School Degree with 5 years relevant work experience

High School Degree and Technical Certification (i.e. Electronic Technician) with 3 years relevant work experience

Associates Degree with 3 years relevant work experience

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, electrical or mechanical, with 2 years relevant work experience

• Work in a fast-paced office and lab environment, including working in a standing or seated position for long periods of up to 12 hours per day, 5 days per week.
