About the Role

We are seeking a hands-on Data Center Hardware Test Technician to support research and development environments in Redmond and Totem Lake, Washington.

This is not a traditional systems administrator position. The role is focused on the physical setup, operation, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance of server hardware and supporting test infrastructure. You will work with servers, TTVs, thermal test blocks, coolant systems, SST testing, and related lab hardware used to evaluate systems before broader deployment.

The ideal candidate is a practical, mechanically inclined problem-solver with experience across multiple technical disciplines. You should be comfortable working directly with hardware, following detailed test procedures, identifying unexpected behavior, documenting results, and collaborating with engineers to keep lab and data center environments operating safely and effectively.

What You'll Do

  • Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot physical server hardware and associated test equipment
  • Set up and support servers and devices under test within data center and lab environments
  • Work with TTVs, thermal test blocks, coolant systems, and related testing infrastructure
  • Perform SST testing and other hardware-validation or system stress-testing activities
  • Assemble and modify test configurations according to engineering instructions, diagrams, and documented procedures
  • Connect and disconnect coolant lines, test fixtures, sensors, power, network cabling, and supporting equipment
  • Monitor temperature, pressure, coolant flow, power, and other system measurements during testing
  • Inspect test configurations for leaks, improper connections, airflow issues, thermal events, and other safety concerns
  • Execute documented test procedures and accurately record test conditions, measurements, results, and failures
  • Troubleshoot server hardware, test equipment, cabling, cooling components, and physical connectivity issues
  • Replace failed or damaged components and perform break/fix activities
  • Escalate unexpected results, equipment failures, and safety concerns to the appropriate engineering teams
  • Maintain organized, safe, and test-ready lab and data center environments
  • Track servers, test equipment, components, tools, and replacement parts
  • Create and update test records, tickets, SOPs, equipment histories, and troubleshooting documentation
  • Support the movement, staging, deployment, and decommissioning of servers and test hardware
  • Collaborate with engineering, infrastructure, facilities, and program teams across multiple workstreams
  • Travel between Redmond and Totem Lake facilities based on project and testing needs

Work Breakdown

  • 70% hands-on hardware setup, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance
  • 15% test monitoring, data collection, and documentation
  • 10% equipment coordination, staging, and inventory
  • 5% meetings and cross-functional coordination

What You'll Bring

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in a hardware test lab, data center, server environment, electronics lab, manufacturing test environment, or similarly technical setting
  • Experience installing, maintaining, or troubleshooting physical servers and related hardware
  • Experience performing hardware validation, reliability testing, system stress testing, environmental testing, or structured test execution
  • Familiarity with thermal testing, liquid cooling, coolant systems, test blocks, or temperature-controlled hardware testing
  • Ability to read and follow technical procedures, diagrams, equipment instructions, and safety documentation
  • Experience using diagnostic tools, test equipment, sensors, or monitoring systems
  • Strong mechanical and technical troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to recognize abnormal temperatures, pressure, flow, noise, vibration, leaks, connectivity problems, and other equipment issues

  • Clear written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple pieces of equipment or concurrent test activities
  • Commitment to workplace safety, proper equipment handling, and established lab procedures
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and perform work involving standing, bending, reaching, and moving equipment
  • Ability to work 100% onsite across facilities in Redmond and Totem Lake, Washington

Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct experience with TTVs, thermal test blocks, coolant systems, or SST testing
  • Experience with liquid-cooled servers, high-density compute environments, or CPU/GPU test systems
  • Experience monitoring coolant temperature, pressure, and flow
