Job Description
About the role
As Data Governance Manager, you will lead the design, implementation and embedding of the Group's enterprise Data Governance Framework, ensuring strong data ownership, high data quality and effective governance across the organisation.
Leading a team of Data Governance Analysts, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the implementation of a new data platform, ensuring governance is built in from the outset. Working closely with Data Engineering, Architecture, Risk, Compliance, Technology and Business leaders, you will develop and deliver the Society's Data Governance Strategy in line with the wider Data and AI Strategy.
You will be responsible for establishing governance policies, standards and controls, driving data quality improvements, identifying Critical Data Elements (CDEs), and defining metadata, lineage and retention requirements. You'll also embed Data Ownership and Stewardship frameworks, introduce governance tooling and data cataloguing capabilities, and establish governance forums and operating models that support regulatory compliance, operational resilience and data-driven decision making.
A key part of the role will be influencing stakeholders across the business, promoting governance best practice and ensuring governance processes enable, rather than hinder, effective delivery.
About You
You will be an experienced Data Governance professional with a proven track record of leading governance initiatives within Financial Services, Banking, Building Society or Insurance environments.
You will have significant experience implementing Data Governance frameworks, operating models and controls, alongside a strong understanding of Data Governance, Data Quality, Metadata Management and wider Data Management disciplines. You'll bring experience supporting large-scale data transformation and platform modernisation programmes, with a proven ability to establish and embed Data Ownership and Data Stewardship models that create clear accountability across an organisation.
A confident stakeholder manager, you will be comfortable influencing senior leaders and driving the adoption of governance principles across business and technology functions. You will have experience identifying Critical Data Elements (CDEs), defining governance requirements, and working collaboratively with data, technology and business teams to deliver practical and effective governance solutions.
You will also have experience delivering governance training and awareness programmes, helping to embed a strong data culture across the organisation. As a collaborative and pragmatic leader, you will be able to translate governance principles into practical outcomes, balancing robust governance with business needs to build trust in data and maximise the value of the organisation's modern data platform.
