Privacy & Cybersecurity Lawyer

We are currently seeking Privacy & Cybersecurity Lawyers to work with our clients at some of the world’s largest technology, financial services, healthcare, retail, consumer goods, and professional services companies.

The ideal candidate will have experience advising businesses on privacy, data protection, and/or cybersecurity matters. Candidates may have a background focused primarily on privacy, cybersecurity, or a combination of both.

Responsibilities:

• Advise clients on privacy and data protection matters, including data collection, use, disclosure, retention, governance, and privacy compliance.
• Counsel on applicable Canadian privacy and data protection requirements, including PIPEDA, provincial privacy legislation, and other evolving regulatory requirements.
• Draft, review, and negotiate privacy and data-related agreements and provisions, including data processing, data sharing, security, and cross-border data transfer terms.
• Advise on privacy and cybersecurity incidents, including breach response, incident management, regulatory notification requirements, and remediation.
• Support privacy and cybersecurity programs, including privacy impact assessments, policies and procedures, data governance, risk assessments, and compliance initiatives.
• Partner with legal, privacy, security, IT, product, compliance, and business teams on privacy and cybersecurity risks.

Qualifications:

• 4+ years of legal experience in data privacy, data protection, cybersecurity, or related regulatory matters, preferably with in-house experience.
• Experience advising organizations on Canadian privacy requirements and/or cybersecurity legal and regulatory matters.
• Experience with privacy compliance, data governance, incident response, privacy-related contracting, or other data protection matters.
• Licensed and in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.

Compensation:

The estimated total compensation for full-time Axiom attorney roles is $114,000-250,000 per year and for non-attorney roles is $64,000-201,000 per year. Compensation decisions are based on various factors, including, but not limited to, experience, skills, certifications, location, and business needs.  Employees may be eligible for additional benefits, including health, dental, and vision insurance; paid holidays and PTO; flexible work arrangements; and professional development opportunities and tools.
