Design Technician

Company Description:

Swift Underground is an turn-key fibre optic installation company located in Steinbach, MB. We use industry leading equipment and technologies to install, test, and deliver high-speed fibre networks. We are currently seeking a qualified individual to fill the role of Fibre Network Design Technician.

Position Summary:

The individual in this position will assist the design department in the creation of construction drawings, splicing schematics, requesting locates, acquiring permits and updating databases. This position will assist our planning department and our field technicians. Our ideal candidate will highly value honesty, enjoy learning, and be interested in overall nerdy things.

This is a full time position.

Essential Job Functions:

• Assist in the design of the build path placement and construction details.
• Create and maintain “digital twin” of real world infrastructure on CAD software.
• Work with local RM's and utilities to confirm placement of existing infrastructure.
• Assist in design and calculation of RFP's.

Position Qualifications:

• Basic understanding of the Windows operating systems, iPhone and Android operating systems, mainline workplace applications like Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
• Basic understanding of CAD.
• Able to communicate with dispatchers, public works departments and co-workers in a professional manner.
• Detail oriented at both micro and macro scales.

Bonus Points:

• Any experience with Esri software suite or equivalent GIS design software.
• Any familiarity with GNSS receivers or spatial referencing.

Compensation:

Beginning salary $16-$24/hr based on technical and interpersonal skills. Future raises and advancement opportunities based on job performance.
