What you'll do

  • Design, build, and operate core AWS infrastructure supporting a multi-tenant, cloud-based platform used by production customers daily.
  • Build and improve CI/CD pipelines that let application teams ship safely and frequently, without needing platform team involvement for every change
  • Lead architecture and code reviews for new infrastructure, and push back constructively when a proposed design won't scale.
  • Reduce toil by automating recurring operational work and building self-service tooling for other engineers.

What they're looking for

  • 7+ years of experience in platform, infrastructure, DevOps, or SRE roles, with at least 3+ years deep in AWS in a production environment.
  • Solid networking fundamentals: VPC design, Transit Gateway/PrivateLink, multi-account architecture (AWS Organizations, SCPs)
  • Experience with our CI/CD stack (or equivalent): GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or ArgoCD, including GitOps patterns and artifact registries
  • Hands-on with observability tooling: CloudWatch, Datadog, or Grafana for metrics, logging, and alerting
  • IAM policy design at scale: least-privilege roles, permission boundaries, cross-account access patterns
  • Working knowledge of AWS data stores in production (RDS, Aurora, DynamoDB)
  • Strong, hands-on Terraform experience: module design, state management, workspace/environment strategy, and running Terraform at team and enterprise scales.
  • A demonstrated bias toward ownership: you've driven a project from "this is a problem" to "this is solved and documented" without heavy oversight.
  • Comfort operating in a scale-up environment defined by fewer guardrails, more judgment calls, and a need to build the process as well as the system.

Nice to have

  • Experience with Kubernetes in production, including cluster upgrades and workload migrations.
  • Background in a company that scaled from ~100 to 500+ employees, especially in infra/platform re-architecture during that growth.
  • Experience with policy-as-code and compliance tooling (OPA, Sentinel, AWS Config, SOC 2 environments).
  • Experience working in AWS GovCloud
  • Relevant certifications: AWS Certified Solutions Architect Professional, AWS Certified DevOps Engineer Professional Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA), Certified Kubernetes Security Specialist (CKS)

About us

Re-architecting Engineering for the Age of Intelligence

PhysicsX is the physics AI company for industrials. The company’s mission is to accelerate hardware innovation by overhauling what industrial engineering and manufacturing look like today. PhysicsX is building a new simulation software stack to deliver deep physics AI enablement across the entire engineering lifecycle. The company partners with leading organisations in aerospace & defence, automotive, semiconductors, materials, and energy & renewables, supporting them on some of their most critical and complex challenges. PhysicsX is headquartered in the United Kingdom, with offices in London, New York, and Singapore and an expanding presence in the Bay Area.

The Role

Who we’re looking for

  • A person who's excited by the ambiguity of a scale-up, not someone looking for a fully paved path.
  • Someone who has operated production AWS infrastructure at scale (not a lab environment or side project) and can speak concretely about what broke, why, and what they changed.
  • A builder who defaults to infrastructure-as-code and treats manual console changes as a last resort, not a habit.
  • A pragmatic engineer who can tell the difference between "technically correct" and "right for where the company is today.”

What you will do

  • Design, build, and operate core AWS infrastructure supporting a multi-tenant, cloud-based platform used by production customers daily.
  • Build and improve CI/CD pipelines that let application teams ship safely and frequently, without needing platform team involvement for every change
  • Lead architecture and code reviews for new infrastructure, and push back constructively when a proposed design won't scale.
  • Reduce toil by automating recurring operational work and building self-service tooling for other engineers.

What you bring to the table

  • 7+ years of experience in platform, infrastructure, DevOps, or SRE roles, with at least 3+ years deep in AWS in a production environment.
  • Solid networking fundamentals: VPC design, Transit Gateway/PrivateLink, multi-account architecture (AWS Organizations, SCPs)

We come from diverse backgrounds, but we share a commitment to operating at the highest level and addressing some of the most complex challenges out there. If you’re ambitious, thoughtful, and driven by impact, you’ll feel at home.

Influence over hierarchy

We operate with a flat structure: good ideas win - wherever they come from. Questioning assumptions and challenging the status quo isn’t just welcomed, it’s expected.

Sustainable pace, long-term ambition

Building meaningful technology is a marathon, not a sprint. We believe in balancing focused, ambitious work with a life beyond it. Our hybrid model blends time together in our New York office with work-from-home days, giving you the flexibility to work sustainably while staying connected in person.
