POSITION SUMMARY

Since Axiom Space is a very complex work environment, we are looking for a resilient, high-energy Manager, Digital Electronics, who leads the design, development, integration, and certification of advanced digital electronic systems for aerospace applications. This leader drives engineering excellence while ensuring process maturity across the full engineering lifecycle. They partner closely with internal program organizations like avionics, integration and tests to understand their resource needs and constraints and deliver world-class engineering products.

The role manages a team of engineers responsible for embedded hardware, FPGA development, digital signal processing, and avionics electronics throughout the product lifecycle. The position collaborates cross-functionally with systems, software, manufacturing, and program teams to deliver innovative, reliable, and compliant solutions that meet customer and regulatory requirements. The Manager drives technical excellence, project execution, and continuous improvement while ensuring adherence to aerospace quality and safety standards. This role requires a strong technical background, leadership experience, and a passion for advancing next-generation aerospace technologies.

This position blends people leadership with hands-on technical insight to advance an industry benchmark Digital Electronics organization.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

·     Lead and manage a team of electrical engineers responsible for Digital Electronics design and build across all Axiom programs.

·     Oversee the design, development, verification, and qualification of digital electronic hardware, including FPGA-based, embedded, and avionics systems

·     Establish and enforce unified electrical engineering standards, processes, methodologies, and best practices to ensure technical rigor and consistency.

·     Champion design assurance, testing rigor, and continuous improvement initiatives.

·     Partners with program managers, chief engineers, and functional leaders to balance priorities, resolve resource conflicts, and manage technical and schedule risks.

·     Maintain labor forecasts, staffing plans, and resource estimates for Digital Electronics work to ensure programs have adequate support to meet cost, schedule, technical quality, and customer commitments.

·     Define acceptance criteria for work performed by the discipline, establish review expectations and quality thresholds.

·     Provide technical subject matter expertise when requested by projects.

·     Establish and monitor metrics related to productivity, staffing utilization, review effectiveness, and process maturity, and drive continuous improvement initiatives

·     Identify emerging electrical design tools, modeling technologies, capability gaps, and strategic investments to advance long-term technical excellence.

·     Develop and maintain team technical capabilities and knowledge management practices to ensure long-term competitiveness and program success.

·     Maintain clear competency expectations and role progression paths and foster professional growth and technical depth of the workforce.

·     Communicating project progress, status, and potential issues to stakeholders and leadership

·     Implementing and maintaining agile project management methodologies throughout the project lifecycle

·     Perform additional job duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Experience

·     Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related technical discipline; advanced degree preferred

·     8+ years of experience in digital electronics, embedded hardware, avionics, FPGA development, or related aerospace systems engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

·     3+ years of experience leading electrical engineering or technical teams

·     Demonstrated experience leading the full product lifecycle, from requirements definition and design through verification, certification, production, and sustainment.

·     Strong knowledge of digital circuit design, FPGA architectures, embedded systems, PCB design, and hardware verification methodologies

·     Experience working within regulated industries and developing products that comply with aerospace, defense, or safety-critical standards.

·     Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and successfully deliver complex technical programs on schedule and within budget

·     Experience with electrical design or simulation tools (e.g., Altium, MATLAB/Simulink, SPICE)

·     Experience with basic lab equipment (oscilloscopes, multimeters) preferred

·     Track record of leading verification and validation activities for flight hardware or systems

·     Experience taking digital electronics from concept to flight delivery

·     Track record of making things happen in ambiguous, fast-moving environments

·     Uses good judgement to solve problems proactively, positively impacting hard challenges

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on the task.

Requirements 

• This position may require access to export controlled technical data or technology subject to NASA regulations, International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), or Export Administration Regulations (EAR). In accordance with U.S. export control laws, final candidates may be required to undergo additional export control screening to determine eligibility for access. Meeting these requirements is a condition of employment.

• Must be willing to work evenings and weekends as needed to meet critical project milestones
