  • Salary: Circa $200K per annum plus 12% superannuation

U@MQ Ltd (Campus Life) is a seven-days-a-week operation that brings the Macquarie University community together through the delivery of a range of commercial and support services. It is a vibrant, hands-on environment where decisions have a direct and meaningful impact on the everyday experience of students, staff and visitors.

We are seeking a Director, Commercial who is as comfortable on the shop floor as they are in the boardroom - a leader who combines sharp commercial acumen with genuine people-first values. Reporting to the CEO you will be a key member of the Campus Life Executive Management Team, responsible for the strategic and operational delivery of services at U@MQ, with direct accountability for our commercial functions. .

This is a role for someone who leads by example, thrives in a dynamic environment, and has a strong ability to identify and drive opportunities across multiple customer-facing businesses while bringing out the best in the people around them.

About the Role

Reporting to the CEO of U@MQ and working alongside the Campus Life Executive Management Team, you will lead a diverse team in the commercial business function,  with full financial responsibility across the function.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and overseeing the coordination of the strategy, planning, budgeting and forecasting process for the commercial business function that aligns to that of the wider business.
  • Delivering sustainable financial results in line with approved targets.
  • Growing and sustaining the business function customer base and competitive position in alignment with other Campus Life business units.
  • Contributing to organisational strategy and decision-making as a member of the Campus Life Executive Management Team. Allocating resources to maximise value and strategic alignment
  • Ensuring that the business function adapts and improves over time by fostering an environment of innovation and continuous improvement
  • Building a high-performing leadership team and workforce within the business function
  • Undertaking directed assignments and projects for the CEO, including internal and external business case analysis and reporting for the organisation.
  • Operating the business function within an agreed risk appetite whilst complying with relevant EEO and WHS regulations

Please note: standard work hours may vary to include weekend and evening work on a rotational basis to meet the needs of the business.

About You (Selection Criteria)

You are a commercially astute, people- leader You know your numbers, you know your customers, and you know how to inspire teams to deliver their best work every day.

  • Extensive experience in commercial businesses, and/or Business Management disciplines with strong demonstrated ability in their application.
  • A successful record of achievement in a senior commercial management role.
  • Superior relationship management, influencing and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Demonstrated experience leading change, process and systems improvements and managing the costings of commercial services, and enhancement of customer experience is critical.
  • Exceptional skills in managing complex and varied commercial projects and activations.
  • Extensive people management experience including high performing teams working within tight delivery times.
  • A natural people leader who leads by example, equally comfortable with strategic planning and rolling up their sleeves in day-to-day operations.
  • A lateral thinker with expert business case evaluation and writing and presentation skills
  • Previous experience working with University policies, systems, processes and procedures and its entities or interrelated functions is desirable.
