This Opportunity 

We are seeking a Director Of Engineering (POD Lead) to lead the Platform Services team in India. 

The Platform Services team will build, manage, and operate the infrastructure that supports engineering teams across India and globally. The team will also own critical backend and platform services, including authentication, authorization, customer and consumer identity and access management, CI/CD, Kubernetes and cloud infrastructure, developer productivity tools, observability, and shared engineering services. 

These services form the backbone of Truveta’s engineering platform and have dependencies across multiple Engineering, Data, Machine Learning, Product, and Security teams. 

This is a hands-on technical leadership role with people-management responsibilities. You will be accountable for technical direction, delivery excellence, platform reliability, and team growth. You will work closely with Product, Technical Program Management, Data, Machine Learning, Security, and Engineering teams in India and the United States. 

What You’ll Do 

Technical and Platform Leadership 

• Define and drive the technical vision, architecture, and roadmap for Platform Services and internal engineering platforms. 
• Lead the design and implementation of scalable, secure, highly available infrastructure and backend services. 
• Guide architecture decisions across cloud infrastructure, Kubernetes, networking, identity, security, developer tooling, and shared services. 
• Build and operate platforms that support engineering, data, machine learning, annotation, and internal workflow requirements. 
• Lead the development and management of Kubernetes-based platforms and cloud-native services. 
• Build and improve authentication, authorization, identity management, and access control services. 
• Drive the development of CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, infrastructure-as-code, and developer self-service capabilities. 
• Establish engineering standards for system design, API development, testing, code quality, observability, and operational readiness. 
• Improve platform availability, scalability, performance, security, disaster recovery, and operational efficiency. 
• Provide hands-on technical guidance through design reviews, architecture discussions, code reviews, production-readiness reviews, and incident responses. 
• Balance near-term delivery commitments with long-term platform scalability, maintainability, and technical health. 
• Identify opportunities to simplify systems, reduce operational overhead, and improve engineering productivity. 

Product and Delivery Leadership 

• Partner with Product, Technical Program Management, Data, Machine Learning, Security, and Engineering teams to understand requirements and define priorities. 
• Translate business and engineering needs into clear technical strategies, milestones, and delivery plans. 
• Ensure predictable, high-quality delivery across multiple platform initiatives. 
• Manage cross-team dependencies and proactively address execution risks. 
• Define and track success metrics related to platform adoption, reliability, performance, security, and developer productivity. 
• Communicate progress, risks, tradeoffs, and technical decisions to stakeholders and senior leadership. 

POD and People Leadership 

• Build, mentor, and grow a high-performing engineering team in India. 
• Provide technical direction, coaching, and support to engineers at different career levels. 
• Foster a culture of ownership, collaboration, engineering excellence, and continuous improvement. 
• Support hiring, onboarding, performance management, career development, and succession planning. 
• Establish effective processes for planning, execution, prioritization, and retrospective learning. 
• Encourage engineers to take ownership of services throughout their lifecycle, from design and development through production operations. 
• Create an inclusive environment where team members can contribute, learn, and grow. 

Cross-Functional and Global Collaboration 

• Work closely with engineering teams across India and the United States to develop shared platforms and services. 
• Partner effectively with U.S.-based stakeholders across time zones. 
• Represent the India Platform Services team in architecture, planning, and organizational forums. 
• Serve as a key technical voice in discussions about platform strategy, engineering effectiveness, and future growth. 
• Build strong relationships with internal customers and ensure that platform services meet the needs of the broader organization. 

Key Qualifications 

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. 
• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience. 
• 3+ years of experience in technical leadership, engineering management, or people management. 
• Experience leading engineering teams responsible for shared platforms, infrastructure, backend services, or developer tooling. 
• Strong experience designing and building distributed systems and production-grade backend services. 
• Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure and cloud-native technologies. 
• Strong understanding of Kubernetes, container orchestration, networking, service discovery, and infrastructure operations. 
• Experience building engineering infrastructure, internal platforms, workflow-heavy systems, or developer productivity tools. 
• Experience with authentication, authorization, identity management, or security-focused backend services. 
• Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as C#, Java, Go, Python, or similar. 
• Experience with modern API architectures, microservices, event-driven systems, and service integration patterns. 
• Experience with CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, automated testing, monitoring, logging, and operational excellence. 
• Familiarity with open-source technologies and the ability to evaluate and adopt open-source solutions. 
• Strong understanding of software development lifecycle practices and Agile delivery methods. 
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with distributed and cross-functional teams. 

Preferred Qualifications 

• Experience working with healthcare, life sciences, clinical data, or other highly regulated domains. 
• Experience building platforms that support data engineering, machine learning, artificial intelligence, or annotation workflows. 
• Experience with Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform, or other major cloud platforms. 
• Experience with identity and access management technologies and protocols such as OAuth, OpenID Connect, and SAML. 
• Experience with service mesh, API gateways, secrets management, policy enforcement, and zero-trust security models. 
• Experience defining service-level objectives, reliability standards, and platform maturity models. 
• Experience leading teams through significant organizational or platform growth. 
• Experience working with globally distributed engineering organizations. 
• Strong understanding of cloud infrastructure, cost management, and optimization.
