Director of Finance

As we continue to grow and evolve, we are seeking an ambitious, commercially astute and strategically minded Director of Finance to join our Executive Board. 

This is a significant opportunity to influence the strategic direction of CBS, drive long-term value creation and build the financial capability, governance and resilience required to support the next phase of our growth. 

Reporting directly to the Managing Director and operating as a member of the Executive Board, you will define and lead the long-term financial strategy for CBS. You will ensure the business remains financially sustainable, appropriately funded and positioned to maximise commercial performance, strategic flexibility and long-term enterprise value.  

Requirements

You’ll be responsible for: 

Financial Strategy and Commercial Direction 

• Defining the long-term financial direction, capital strategy and value creation priorities for CBS. 
• Shaping strategic decisions through clear financial, commercial and market insight. 
• Determining how capital, funding, investment and financial resources should be deployed to support business objectives. 
• Balancing growth, profitability, cash generation and risk to maximise sustainable long-term value. 
• Ensuring Finance is recognised across CBS as a strategic partner and driver of business success.  

Commercial Performance and Enterprise Value 

• Establishing the financial performance framework that supports sustainable growth and long-term value creation. 
• Ensuring commercial decisions are aligned with strategic priorities and deliver appropriate returns. 
• Providing the Executive Board with meaningful insight, constructive challenge and assurance to support confident decision-making. 
• Ensuring financial performance, emerging risks and commercial opportunities are clearly understood across the organisation. 
• Converting financial and market insight into actionable recommendations that improve organisational performance.  

Governance, Risk and Financial Stewardship 

• Maintaining strong financial governance, control and compliance across CBS. 
• Retaining Executive accountability for the integrity of statutory accounts, taxation governance, regulatory reporting and statutory filing obligations. 
• Ensuring effective oversight of audit activity, tax and VAT compliance, treasury governance and financial risk. 
• Maintaining a robust financial control environment that supports responsible growth, effective decision-making and stakeholder confidence. 
• Providing assurance to shareholders, funders, auditors and the Board regarding the financial stewardship and resilience of the organisation.  

Funding, Treasury and External Relationships 

• Defining the long-term funding and capital management strategy required to support CBS’s growth ambitions. 
• Maintaining strong executive-level relationships with banking partners, funders, auditors, advisers and other key financial stakeholders. 
• Ensuring appropriate oversight of liquidity, funding capacity, treasury exposures and financial resilience. 
• Using economic trends, funding conditions and market intelligence to inform strategic planning and investment decisions.  

Executive Leadership, Culture and Organisational Influence 

• Contributing to the strategic leadership of CBS as a member of the Executive Board, helping to shape the direction, priorities and culture of the organisation. 
• Building and leading high-performing Finance and Treasury teams, creating a culture of accountability, ownership, commercial awareness and continuous improvement. 
• Developing future leadership and specialist capability to ensure CBS has the financial expertise required to support long-term growth. 
• Championing financial discipline, informed decision-making and responsible risk management across the organisation. 
• Sponsoring financial transformation, organisational change and continuous improvement. 
• Role modelling the CBS Values in your leadership, decisions and relationships. 

About you 

You will be a commercially focused finance executive who combines strategic thinking, technical credibility and strong business insight. 

Resilient, adaptable and an excellent communicator, you will be able to build trust and followership at every level. You will bring energy and momentum, respond confidently to changing commercial conditions and translate complex financial information into clear, practical direction. 

You will have the judgement and influence to balance commercial opportunity with financial stewardship, governance, risk and long-term value creation.  

Essential experience 

• ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified. 
• Senior finance leadership experience, with evidence of influencing at Executive Board, Board or senior leadership level. 
• Experience shaping financial strategy, organisational performance and commercial direction. 
• Strong commercial judgement and strategic decision-making capability, supported by exceptional analytical and data skills. 
• Experience developing and executing business and financial strategies, governance arrangements and performance frameworks. 
• The ability to provide clear insight, assurance and constructive challenge at Board level. 
• A successful record of leading and developing high-performing finance teams.  

Desirable experience 

• Executive oversight of statutory accounts, audit, taxation and financial governance. 
• Experience within financial services, lending, leasing, automotive finance or another regulated environment. 
• Management of investor, funder and banking relationships. 
• Treasury, liquidity and funding management experience. 
• Strong budgeting, forecasting, commercial pricing and financial modelling expertise. 
• Experience supporting organisational growth, profitability and transformation. 
• Experience using technology, artificial intelligence and automation to improve efficiency, insight and financial decision-making.
