What you'll do

  • Provide daily work direction, coaching and performance feedback to unionized delivery drivers.
  • Prepare route assignments, schedules, vacation coverage and replacement coverage in accordance with the collective agreement, company policies and operational needs.
  • Apply the collective agreement and policies consistently; support attendance management, investigations, corrective action and grievance processes with the Warehouse Manager and Human Resources.
  • Lead driver meetings, safety talks, onboarding, qualification training and regular field observations.
  • Coordinate daily delivery routes and schedules for frozen and refrigerated products, considering customer delivery windows, order volumes, vehicle capacity and product-handling requirements.
  • Ensure trucks are loaded accurately, dispatched on time and operated in a manner that protects packaging, product condition and food safety.
  • Monitor route completion, delivery accuracy, mileage, returns, refusals, damages and service issues; investigate exceptions and complete corrective actions.
  • Coordinate holiday schedules, emergency orders and service recovery with Warehouse, Customer Service, Sales and customers.
  • Ensure drivers follow applicable GMP, sanitation, allergen, traceability and food transportation requirements.
  • Verify vehicle cleanliness and readiness and ensure required product temperatures are maintained, monitored and documented throughout delivery.
  • Ensure returned, damaged, refused or temperature-affected products are identified, segregated and managed according to site procedures.
  • Support food safety, quality and traceability investigations, mock recalls, audits and corrective actions.

 ‘Where you will drive value:’ 

The Distribution Supervisor leads the day-to-day delivery of frozen and refrigerated food products from Truro Ice Cream. The role supervises 8-9 unionized delivery drivers and ensures safe, compliant, accurate and cost-effective deliveries while protecting product quality and maintaining the cold chain. The supervisor coordinates routes, schedules, driver records, vehicle maintenance and delivery service in partnership with the Warehouse Manager, Warehouse, Customer Service and other operational teams.

Driver Leadership and Labour Relations

  • Provide daily work direction, coaching and performance feedback to unionized delivery drivers.

Transportation Compliance and Fleet Management

  • Ensure compliance with transportation legislation, company standards, hours-of-service rules and required driver documentation.

  • Monitor driver logs, licences, qualification records, mileage, daily vehicle inspection reports and defect documentation.

  • Coordinate preventive maintenance, inspections, repairs, licensing and seasonal readiness for delivery vehicles and route equipment.

  • Monitor vehicle mileage, utilization, fuel use, maintenance status and operating costs; ensure unsafe vehicles are removed from service and defects are corrected promptly.

Safety and Incident Management

  • Champion safe driving, loading, unloading, material-handling and customer-site practices.

  • Investigate vehicle accidents, injuries, near misses, product damage and delivery incidents; complete reporting and corrective actions.

  • Prepare drivers and equipment for winter conditions, severe weather, route disruptions and transportation emergencies.

Performance and Continuous Improvement

  • Track on-time delivery, route mileage, overtime, fuel use, maintenance compliance, delivery accuracy, customer complaints and safety performance.

  • Identify route, scheduling and fleet improvements that reduce cost while maintaining food safety and customer service.

  • Explain performance variances and provide accurate operational updates to the Warehouse Manager.

  • Complete other related duties as assigned.
