Description of Work
Community Supervision, as part of the Department of Adult Correction, is responsible for the oversight of the supervision of all adult offenders on probation, parole, or post-release supervision. Additionally, Community Supervision is responsible for the supervision of offenders who transfer from other states, as well as oversight of the Community Service Work Program. Community Supervision’s mission is to ensure public safety while providing meaningful supervision of offenders that directs the offenders towards becoming productive citizens of the state.Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

The incumbent shall have extensive knowledge of Structured Sentencing and how it applies to the Division of Community Supervision. The Field Training Officer shall exhibit a working knowledge of local and regional community resources to address the placement of monitored offenders. The position shall be knowledgeable of the available Division sanctions that will target offender needs. The incumbent must be proficient with a variety of software applications to include OPUS, CSAS, ICOTS, FMS, and AOC in addition to MS Office applications in order to perform data entry and research regarding offenders.
The incumbent must be able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with the trainee, Judiciary, offenders, and the general public to ensure thorough and appropriate collection, analysis, and utilization of data to interpret DAC/DCS guidelines, policies, and procedures. The incumbent shall behave professionally at all times, as they hold a highly visible position within the Division of Community Supervision and their actions will reflect upon the entire Division. The position is frequently in court and will associate with judges, lawyers, District Attorneys, Clerk of Court, law enforcement, etc.
The incumbent must possess exceptional time management and organizational skills and must be able to work under stressful situations. The Field Training Officer is responsible for planning trainees’ as well as their own daily work operations, setting priorities, scheduling, and establishing deadlines for the caseload. This position must work as a member of a team in a variety of activities, to include court intake.

About the Division of Community Supervision:
The Division of Community Supervision (DCS) is responsible for overseeing supervision of adult offenders on probation, parole, or post-release. The DCS mission is to ensure public safety while helping offenders make positive changes and successfully complete their supervision. DCS collaborates closely with the NC Post-Release Supervision and Parole Commission, the court system as well as other state agencies, and community partners, particularly those addressing mental health, substance use and re-entry issues faced by our returning citizens. DCS is also responsible for the supervision of offenders who transfer from other states through the Interstate Compact program and has oversight of the Community Service Work Program.

Graduation from a four-year college or university and two years of experience as a Probation/Parole Officer; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Necessary Special Qualifications: Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and training Standards Commission.
