This is a temporary position, and it offers no leave or retirement benefits. Note: Permanent and time-limited NC State Government employees must separate from their permanent or time-limited position to work in a temporary position.  All temporary employees are limited to one NC State Government temporary assignment at a time.

This temporary position is located at 1311 US HWY 301 South, Wilson, NC 27893- Wilson County, with NC School for the Deaf Eastern.   

 
Job Order Hourly Rate of Pay: $19.00 (Based on education and/or years of relevant work experience reflected on the application).  

This is a flex schedule position that works Sunday-Thursday.
 
Effective July 1, 2025, candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they have the minimum education and experience listed from the class specification.  The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities listed within this vacancy announcement will be used only as management preferences and will be used to screen for the most qualified pool of applicants. 

Management Preferences:  

  • A Residential Life Trainer (RLT) involves the care, supervision, and welfare of students in a residential setting
  • A trainer will assist the students with additional needs such as other health impairments, multiple disabilities, and/or behavior issues
  • Provide personal hygiene, behavioral management, socialization, and leisure activities
  • RLT will assist with weekend transportation and field trips to ensure the safety of the students

Minimum Education and Experience

Minimum Education and Experience (Children & Youth) High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of experience in an age- appropriate childcare setting or a goal- oriented setting; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum Education and Experience (Adult) High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of experience in residential or goal-oriented program for adults; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
