Location

This position reports on site at the Republic Plaza building located at 370 17th St, Denver, CO 80202, Monday through Friday 8:00AM - 5:00PM.

Our mission also includes the prevention and deterrence of crimes, supporting the well-being of victims, participating in the community, being transparent and accountable, and, improving the criminal justice system to provide fair alternatives to incarceration in appropriate cases.

What You’ll Do

We are currently seeking an Adult Diversion Officer to join the Denver District Attorney’s Office, 2nd Judicial District. Adult Diversion Officer duties include:

• Interviewing appropriate adult candidates for potential Diversion inclusion.
• Scheduling and completing intakes with candidates.
• Conducting assessment interviews with candidates using screening tools to appraise and interpret an adult’s risk factors.
• Upon program acceptance, making client referrals to appropriate need-based services.
• Developing case plans: Following intake, Officer will use results from intake documentation to develop appropriate individual case plans and set goals with the clients. Goals will address individual needs using SMART goal format and be timeline based. Following case planning efforts, refer clients to community service providers for treatment and supportive.
• Preparing required reports: Maintain client files and records consistent with departmental policies and local, state, and federal rules and regulations. Prepare recommendations for sentencing and treatment, recommends action(s) for a client’s failure to complete diversion requirements.  Ensure program paperwork and court documents are completed accurately in a timely fashion.  Ensure that all paperwork is sent out within required deadlines: notification of court events, letters, restitution, etc.
• Monitoring client progress: Set supervision meetings with each individual client according to risk level. Complete case notes for all clients using D.A.P. format. Monitors and verifies clients have completed agreed upon goals/activities. Motivates clients to change using Motivational Interviewing strategies through the stages of change model. Meets with clients, family members (with written consent) and/or other services providers to discuss progress, problems, and solutions, and recommends corrective action for clients in non-compliance. Notify the District Attorney when a client is not complying with program requirements, and testifies in court as needed.
• Conducting Groups: Prepares and conducts various cognitive/behavioral classes, facilitates groups, and develops the curriculum for individual groups and classes.
• Trainings and Meetings: Attend required trainings and or meetings assigned by supervisor.  Serves on committees as delegated, recommend changes to improve services/facilities for clients; coordinates and/or attends meetings with community-based partners/groups, city personnel, and other governmental agencies for the purpose of client prevention efforts.
• Productivity: Organizes work, set priorities, determines resource requirements, determines short or long-term goals and strategies to achieve them, coordinates with other organizations or parts of an organization, monitors progress, and evaluates outcomes. Is passionate about working with young people. Displays a high level of initiative, is a self-starter who is committed to completing assignments in a timely manner.  Works with minimal supervision, is motivated to achieve and is proactive with clients in the Diversion program.

Our ideal candidate will have:

• Experience working with youth or adults and an understanding of community resources
• An understanding of the Risk-Need-Responsivity Model to assess and treat offenders. Have a working knowledge of strategies to reducing recidivism
• Ability to adapt to fast past environment and handle multiple priorities
• An understanding of working with grants and program data collection, and assist the office in reporting outcome measures to grantors on a quarterly basis
• Excellent communication skills, both orally and written
• Energy to invest the time and effort into program clients who may be resistant to change
• Experience working within a team structure and positively contributing to department goals 
• Bilingual preferred

Required Minimum Qualifications

• Education: Bachelors Degree in Psychology, Sociology, Human Services, Criminal Justice, or a related field
• Experience: Two (2) years of experience in performing case management including completing comprehensive needs assessments and developing/implementing case plans OR one (1) year of experience in case work and counseling in areas such as Diversion, Probation, alcohol and drug abuse, community-based treatment case management, or a closely related area
• Equivalency: A combination of appropriate education and experience may be substituted for the minimum education and experience requirements
