What you'll do

  • Performs routine technical functions related to the support of development engineering activities such as design, test, checkout, fabrication, modification, and assembly of electronics and Electro-mechanical systems, experimental design circuitry, prototype models or specialized test equipment.
  • Applications may include analog, digital and/or video type circuits and logic systems.
  • Works from schematics, diagrams, written and verbal descriptions, layouts or defined plans to perform routine testing, checkout, troubleshooting, prototype building, environmental testing, and simple developmental engineering tasks.
  • Performs routine operational tests and fault isolation on development systems and equipment to ensure conformance with design specifications.
  • Diagnoses and isolates malfunctions down to component level.
  • Conducts defined engineering tests and collects data as assigned.
  • Utilizes routine development or diagnostic equipment including oscilloscope, VOM, DVM, signal generators and similar test apparatus.
  • Normally assigned in area such as development, engineering, test equipment design, or the like.
  • Build systems using engineering drawings, configuration & recovery documentation
  • Support startup and shutdown procedures, ATP/Delivery, as well as post-delivery support.
  • Produce engineering documentation, reports, drawings (flow charts, block diagrams, and schematics
  • Perform manual labor including but not limited to lifting and moving heavy test equipment, trench covers, often heavy cables and harnessing

  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a US Government Secret clearance within a reasonable amount of time as determined by business needs.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings in accordance with Industry standards, including rack assembly drawings, interconnect wiring diagrams and custom cable assemblies.
  • Working experience with industry standards for connectors.
  • Must be physically able to move up to 50 lbs.
  • Must have color vision to identify cables and wires.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent and 6 years or relevant experience in cable wiring, test, electrical installations, or similar.

  • Proficiency with general instrumentation, data acquisition, and load control set up and operation
  • Ability to assess anomalies and develop resolutions in conjunction with Engineering.
  • Ability to lead small-scale integration and test team including troubleshooting and modifying test sets to meet requirements

  • Desire to learn and assume multi-disciplined technician roles such as: instrumentation, mechanical setup, dynamic testing, environmental/thermal testing
  • Active DoD Secret clearance or higher.
  • Experience with the design and laboratory integration of communication systems and/or networked systems
  • Experience in industry standards for connectors including, but not limited to D38999, Dsub, twinax, RJ45, etc.

Northrop Grumman, has an opening for a Electronic Technician 3/4 to join our team of highly qualified and diverse individuals to support our Test and Evaluation Team. This position will be located in Rancho Bernardo, CA.

Test Engineering is looking to fill a Electronic Technician to help support all aspects/disciplines of Test. The selected candidate must possess excellent communication skills and exceptional abilities to work well within a diverse team. The selected individual is expected to work for and under the direction of a senior level personnel, Engineers and or Engineering Manager.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES are not limited to the following:

  • Performs routine technical functions related to the support of development engineering activities such as design, test, checkout, fabrication, modification, and assembly of electronics and Electro-mechanical systems, experimental design circuitry, prototype models or specialized test equipment.

Basic Qualifications Level 3:

Primary Level Salary Range: $66,600.00 - $111,000.00

Secondary Level Salary Range: $79,100.00 - $131,900.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
