Employee Relations Specialist

Location: San Jose, Costa Rica

Join Lonza's Employee Relations team and play a key role in fostering a fair, respectful, and compliant workplace across our U.S. operations. What you will do:

  • Manage employee relations cases from intake through resolution, ensuring timely, consistent, and compliant outcomes across a variety of workplace matters.

  • Conduct and support workplace investigations, including fact-finding, interviews, evidence review, and documentation of findings.

  • Partner with HR Business Partners, managers, Legal, and Ethics & Compliance to assess risk, resolve issues, and align on appropriate outcomes.

  • Provide guidance and coaching to managers and employees on employee relations processes, policies, disciplinary matters, and workplace concerns.

  • Maintain accurate, confidential, and audit-ready case documentation while ensuring adherence to established governance standards and procedures.

  • Identify trends, risks, and recurring workplace themes through case analysis and contribute insights that support proactive people strategies.

  • Support operational excellence by contributing to process improvements, reporting initiatives, and the adoption of ER technologies and AI-enabled tools.

What we are looking for:

  • 3-5 years of experience in Employee Relations, HR investigations or a related field supporting U.S.-based employee populations.

  • Hands-on experience managing employee relations cases and supporting workplace investigations from intake through resolution.

  • Strong knowledge of U.S. employment laws and regulations, including EEO, Title VII, ADA, FMLA, and retaliation-related matters.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Spanish, with the ability to navigate sensitive situations.

  • Experience working with HR case management systems such as Workday, ServiceNow, or similar platforms is preferred.

  • Experience in a multinational, matrixed, or shared services environment is strongly preferred, along with a commitment to confidentiality, integrity, and continuous improvement.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Psychology, Law, or a related field.
