About this role

Lead Engineer Electrical & Instrumentation

Introduction
At Royal IHC, we design and deliver innovative equipment and integrated systems for the maritime industry. Within our organisation, IHC Smit is a key player focused on delivering high-tech solutions for dredging, offshore and mining applications. Engineering is the heart of what we do – and we’re growing.

To strengthen our team, we’re looking for a Lead Engineer Electrical & Instrumentation. In this role, you’ll contribute both technically and organisationally to multidisciplinary projects, taking ownership of the electrical discipline. You’ll be part of a dynamic company that offers real growth opportunities – both in expertise and leadership.

The Role

As Engineer E&I, you will act as the technical representative for the electrical discipline within project teams. You will work closely with engineers from other disciplines and departments to ensure integration of all systems. Typical project teams consist of 5 to 6 people, and you will play a key role in aligning stakeholders, managing expectations, and ensuring technical quality.

This is a great opportunity if you're looking for a role that balances technical depth with coordination and leadership. If you have the ambition to grow into a management position in the future, this role offers a clear development path.

Your Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Representing the electrical discipline within multidisciplinary project teams

  • Leading technical discussions and aligning with engineering, procurement, and project management

  • Electromechanical Assemblies: Ability to design, integrate, and troubleshoot electrical and mechanical systems.

  • 3D Modeling: Proficiency in interpreting 3D models for assemblies and layouts.

  • Acting as a liaison between departments to ensure smooth coordination and integration

  • Translating technical requirements into practical designs and deliverables

  • Monitoring progress and ensuring electrical work aligns with planning, budget, and quality standards

  • Supporting project meetings and contributing to stakeholder management

  • Coaching junior engineers and contributing to knowledge sharing within the team

Your Profile

You are a technically skilled engineer with a strong sense of ownership. You enjoy collaborating across disciplines, and you’re comfortable taking the lead when needed. You’re eager to keep growing – technically and professionally.

We’re looking for someone who brings:

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or similar)

  • Design Tools: Experience with EPLAN (electrical design),

  • AutoCAD (2D/3D drafting), and any mechanical application (SolidWorks/Solid Edge) is an advantage

  • Corporate Platforms: Experience with PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) systems (Siemens TeamCenter) or similar.

  • Experience working in multidisciplinary project teams

  • Strong communication skills and stakeholder management abilities

  • The ability to balance technical detail with a helicopter view

  • Organisational and planning skills to lead electrical scopes effectively

  • Fluency in English; knowledge of Dutch is a plus

  • Leadership potential and the ambition to grow into a management role

Royal IHC offers you:

  • A gross monthly salary between € 5500 and € 6600 +8% holiday allowance (based on 40 hours a week)

  • € 0,21 per kilometre commuting allowance.

  • A profit-sharing scheme.

  • Good work/life balance with 40 vacation days for full-time employment with the option to buy or sell (additional) leave.

  • Possibilities to work from home with associated expense allowance and to perform the work on the basis of flexible working hours (depending on the position).

  • An average salary pension scheme in which matters are properly arranged in the event of accidental death, incapacity for work or unemployment.

  • Good disability insurance.

  • Participation (on a voluntary basis) in the Social Fund, on the basis of which care and related costs are reimbursed that are not covered by your health insurance.

  • Discount on VGZ's additional healthcare insurance.

  • A training budget of €1,500 every three years.

  • Unlimited sporting in our own fitness room.
