About this role

Propeller is on a mission to take the guesswork out of moving dirt - reducing wasted fuel, time, and money. We do this through the power of maps.

Our customers use Propeller’s integrated hardware and software products to capture accurate 3D versions of their worksites. With over 50,000 worksites worldwide using Propeller’s smart survey technology, we empower project teams to map, measure, and manage site activity.

Propeller empowers everyone to approach, own, and solve problems creatively. We’re data nerds who care about impact, honesty, and each other. We take pride in being a great place to work. We are proud to be recipients of Bi Grouup's Excellence in Customer Experience award and Inspiring Workplaces of Australasia, being recognised as a Fast Company and BuiltIn Best Place to Work. You can learn more about us on Glassdoor.

Your Mission:
At Propeller, solving complex engineering challenges is at the heart of what we do - and strong people leadership is key to making that happen. As Engineering Manager, your mission is to build, support, and empower a team of engineers to deliver high-quality, customer-focused products that advance our platform on a global scale.

You’ll lead and mentor a group of full-stack engineers, focusing on their growth, performance, wellbeing, and delivery outcomes. You’ll support your team through regular feedback, coaching, and opportunities that stretch their skills and keep them learning. You’ll partner with tech leads and Product to set direction, while your focus stays on the people: coaching, career development, hiring, and continually improving how the team works together. Your impact comes through the engineers you lead.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of engineers, owning team health, performance, and development
  • Partner with tech leads and staff engineers, who own technical direction, to ensure the team delivers against the roadmap
  • Support team members’ growth through regular feedback, coaching, and tailored development opportunities
  • Manage team performance, including supporting high performers and addressing underperformance with care
  • Drive a strong team culture - feedback, inclusion, and continuous improvement of ways of working
  • Identify and remove blockers - process, organisational, or interpersonal - to keep the team moving forward smoothly
  • Partner with the Talent team to help hire great engineers and actively support new hires during onboarding to set them up for success

Requirements

  • You have a genuine passion for people leadership, coaching, and mentorship
  • You have experience managing engineering teams, including 1:1s, performance management, growth and development, and hiring
  • You lead with empathy, stay open to feedback, and create a safe environment where people can do their best work
  • You’re always looking for ways to improve processes, systems, and how the team works together
  • You have strong collaboration skills working cross-functionally with Product, Design, and senior technical leaders
  • You have strong technical depth across system design, software architecture, and engineering practices, enabling you to engage credibly with complex technical challenges and support your team in making sound technical decisions

Benefits

  • Employee share options
  • Professional development budget and leave
  • The opportunity to take part in our mentorship program
  • Mental health resources
  • Monthly telephone and/or internet allowance
  • Paid primary & secondary parental leave policies
  • Hybrid work arrangements and WFH equipment provided
