Job Description

AECOM is seeking an Environmental Engineer II to be based out of our Seattle, Washington office. The successful candidate will be a self-motivated individual with a strong background in environmental engineering and a successful work history in environmental investigations (groundwater, soil vapor, and soil sampling) and environmental site remediation of impacted sites, as well as strong task management and technical report writing skills.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Remediation system operation and maintenance.
• Serve as the task lead for environmental projects working under the supervision of a Project Manager.
• Coordinate the efforts of subcontractors and field/support staff.
• Provide project and task support, including data analysis, report preparation, cost estimating, remedial action planning, and design support.
• Gather and correlate basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to entry-level engineers.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop solutions to environmental challenges using established methods and innovative approaches.
• Perform routine engineering assignments involving calculations and technical evaluations.
• Execute work in accordance with agreed-upon budgets and schedules with minimal supervision.
• Support environmental investigation and remediation projects throughout Washington and the Pacific Northwest region.
• Conduct field work to assist with remediation system operations, maintenance, monitoring, and environmental sampling activities.
• Qualified candidates must be comfortable working in the field and traveling to project sites as needed.

 

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering or a related field and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, or demonstrated equivalency of education and/or experience.
• Valid driver's license is required, along with the ability to pass a Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) check in accordance with company policy.  
• Ability to successfully pass a background check.
• Due to the nature of work and project sites, U.S. Citizenship or U.S. Permanent Resident status is required. Sponsorship now or in the future is not available.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with soil and groundwater remediation systems.
• Willingness to perform field work, including oversight of contractors and subcontractors.
• Strong technical report writing skills and the ability to develop engineering design specifications.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and other standard engineering software applications.
• Master's degree in Environmental Engineering or a related field.
• Four (4) years of relevant environmental consulting or engineering experience.
• Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in Washington State or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire; Oregon P.E. registration is considered a plus.
• 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification and current 8-hour annual refresher.
• Positive attitude, strong communication skills, willingness to mentor junior staff, and commitment to workplace health and safety.
• Self-motivated individual who can work independently and effectively communicate project status to project managers and clients.
• Ability to proactively engage with AECOM staff, subcontractors, clients, and regulatory stakeholders.
• Familiarity with Washington State Department of Ecology cleanup programs and guidance, including MTCA regulations; experience with Oregon DEQ and other Pacific Northwest regulatory frameworks is a plus.
• Ability to frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds of field equipment with assistance.
• Ability to safely operate a full-size pickup truck and travel to project sites throughout the Pacific Northwest.
