Began work in Ethiopia, 1999 in response to severe drought that happened in Ethiopia’s Somali region. Currently, providing assistance in ten different regions implementing emergency and development programs in health, water and sanitation, economic recovery and development (ERD), women’s protection and empowerment, education, child protection, and multi-sectoral emergency response.

Job Overview/Summary: 

Duration: 6 Month

We are seeking a motivated Environmental Health Intern to support the EH (WASH) team in the design and implementation of water supply and sanitation projects. The intern will assist with technical designs, construction monitoring, site visits, and tender processes while gaining practical experience in engineering project delivery. This six-month internship provides an excellent opportunity to develop technical and professional skills within a humanitarian and development setting.

Major responsibilities include:

·         Design water supply and sanitation structures.

·         Prepare BoQs and construction specifications.

·         Participate in tender document preparation and evaluation.

·         Construction materials and equipment inspection.

·         Site level visit and provide technical support as needs to EH team.

·         Support and attend meetings and workshops when needed.

Safeguarding Responsibilities: -

·         Promote and actively participate in initiatives and efforts to build team engagement, inclusion and cohesion in IRC [team/office]

·         Foster ongoing learning, honest dialogue and reflection to strengthen safeguarding and to promote IRC values and adherence to IRC policies

Requirements:

Educational Requirements:

·    ��    2025/26 First Degree Graduate in Civil Engineering, Hydraulic/Water Resource Engineering and other related fields

Preferred Experience and Skills:

·         Zero years of experience

·         Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

·         Commitment to learning and applying humanitarian principles and inclusion.

·         Willingness and commitment to learn Microsoft Office applications with minimal support

·         Excellent written and verbal communication in English, Amharic, and ability to speak local language is advantageous.

This internship is a six‑month program and includes a monthly stipend

Selection Process

·         Only applicants meeting the minimum qualification will be short listed and contacted.

·         The minimum qualification includes the right educational background as per the Educational Requirement, proof of recent graduate, letter of recommendation from your respective university.

·         Shortlisted candidates will be scheduled for a written exam to evaluate their basic skills.

·         As per the exam result a panel interview will be scheduled

·         The final result will incorporate both the written and interview grades

·         The finalist will be contacted and all other candidates who are interviewed but not selected will receive official email regarding the recruitment status.
