SUMMARY

Under general supervision operates, maintains and repairs video inspection equipment and oversees skilled and semi-skilled work associated with the inspection, cleaning, and general maintenance of the City’s storm water drainage system.  Regularly supervises 1-2 personnel and may occasionally be required to perform manual semi-skilled or unskilled labor.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Operates remote camera and video inspection equipment, and oversees the general inspection of storm sewer pipe, manholes, inlets, etc.
• Responsible for video recording and accurate locating of video inspections.  i.e., broken and deteriorated mains, improperly installed connections, debris blockages, etc.
• Responsible for keeping organized inspection data files.
• Responsible for technical video inspection equipment maintenance and minor repairs.
• Enters confined spaces, when necessary, to inspect piping system, retrieve camera equipment, remove large debris, perform general maintenance to storm sewer drainage system, etc.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

• Checks oil, lubricants, hydraulic and water levels of equipment, making periodic checks on all vital working areas and performs minor maintenance and adjustments to equipment.
• Responsible for proper safeguarding/barricading of work site to protect fellow employees and the public.
• Maintains an inventory of all tools.
• Operation of 2 ½ ton to 12 cu.yd. (46,000 GVW) dump truck as necessary.
• May operate equipment in other comparable pay categories or be willing to train if necessary.
• This position is subject to 24 hour emergency call out and will be required to carry pager/cellular phone on a rotational shift arrangement.
• Maintains safe working environment through compliance with occupational safety rules and practices.
• Proper completion of daily job reports, and other reports as needed.
• Orders supplies from warehouse or outside suppliers as necessary.
• Performs manual work when needed to assist in the performance of various tasks.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Graduation from high school or GED required. Three (3) years experience in utility/storm drainage construction, or maintenance, or similar type work preferred. Experience with confined space safety regulations, procedures, and safety equipment desirable. Experience with utility/storm sewer pipe video inspection equipment desirable. Completion of 16 hours training in traffic and barricading procedures during probationary year. Completion of 16 hours training in confined space entry and recovery safety procedures during probationary year. Valid Texas Driver’s License required. Must be able to obtain a Texas Class "A" Commercial Driver’s License when scheduled to attend CDL training course during probationary year. Regular and punctual attendance is a requirement of this position.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• Must possess good communication skills, both oral and written.
• Must have working knowledge of traffic control devices and their applications.

• Knowledge of and ability to operate light and medium equipment and trucks (12 cubic yard), and other similar equipment used in the general cleaning and maintenance of storm sewer drainage system.
• Must have working knowledge of all hand tools, both manual and power driven.
• Ability to work in possible hazardous conditions, stressful emergency situations, and integrate well with co-workers.

• Ability to operate small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems.
• Should have good working knowledge of remote cameras and video inspection equipment used in the inspection of underground piping systems.
• Computer and Microsoft software applications experience is needed to utilize storm sewer video inspection software.
• Knowledge of storm sewer pipe cleaning/maintenance/repair methods and equipment.
• Ability to operate and repair small/light equipment, such as power tools.
