About this role

We are seeking a skilled Estimator to join our team in Oshawa, Ontario, supporting a major GO Transit infrastructure project. Reporting to the Senior Estimator, the successful candidate will play a key role in preparing accurate and competitive estimates for complex construction and infrastructure projects.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Prepare comprehensive estimating packages, including quantity takeoffs, cost studies, budgets, subcontractor pricing, and bid comparisons.
  • Review project drawings, specifications, contract terms, and tender documentation to ensure all project requirements are incorporated into estimates.
  • Review and coordinate RFIs prior to submission and support the resolution of estimating-related questions.
  • Perform quantity takeoffs for large and complex construction projects and coordinate takeoff activities.
  • Lead subcontractor and supplier solicitation efforts and maintain strong industry relationships.
  • Review, analyze, and compare subcontractor and supplier quotations to support procurement and bid strategies.
  • Develop detailed project estimates, including verification of direct and indirect costs.
  • Assign and manage bid package responsibilities as required.
  • Develop and analyze project schedules and execution plans in collaboration with operations teams.
  • Evaluate constructability, project risks, and opportunities during the estimating process.
  • Participate in and lead estimate review meetings.
  • Prepare bid clarifications and support tender submissions.
  • Provide estimating guidance and technical support to project stakeholders and team members.
  • Assist with contractual risk identification and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of related estimating experience within the construction industry.
  • Experience preparing estimates for large, complex construction, infrastructure, civil, transportation, or transit projects.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple tenders and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience supporting competitive bid submissions and subcontractor procurement activities.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and industry-standard estimating software.
  • Knowledge of BIM (Building Information Modeling) and model-based estimating is considered an asset.
  • Thorough understanding of trade-related drawings, specifications, and construction documentation.
  • Ability to assess construction documents for completeness and identify potential risks or gaps.
  • Strong knowledge of construction costs, budgeting methodologies, and project scheduling.
  • Experience identifying, negotiating, and mitigating contractual risks.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical information to a variety of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor, coach, and collaborate with team members.
  • Commercial awareness and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.

Working Conditions:

  • Site-based role in Oshawa, Ontario.

Compensation

$90,450.00 - $120,600.00

This is the expected base pay range for this role. Individual base pay will be determined based on a variety of factors including experience, knowledge, skills, education and location.
