How Will You Make a Difference?

The Fitter Welder Performs skilled fitting, fabrication, assembly, and welding of burners, valves, piping components, and other fabricated structures in accordance with engineering drawings, specifications, welding procedures, and quality requirements. Lays out, fits, aligns, prepares, and welds ferrous and non-ferrous materials using multiple welding processes and positions to produce completed assemblies that meet dimensional, structural, pressure, and workmanship requirements.

This is a union position with a pay rate of $38.11/hour and work schedule of Monday-Friday, first shift. Occasional daily or weekend overtime is required based on business need.

What Do We Want to Know About You?

• High school diploma or GED required.
• AWS or similar certification is required.
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience is required. Must be proficient in tig, stick and mig welding.
• Able to read engineering drawings to understand required specifications.

What Will Your Typical Day Look Like?

• Receives instructions and drawings on assignments.
• Reads drawings, charts, diagrams and sketches to determine material specifications and dimensions for tools needed, layout and assembly.
• Uses tape measures, squares, levels, gauges, and other measuring devices and performs calculations necessary to determine dimensions, angles, orientation, and fit-up requirements.
• Operates bending rolls to form specific shapes.
• Prepares, cleans, sets up and assembles pieces to be welded.
• Does layout and fitting  per specifications of the drawings, charts, diagrams and sketches.
• Uses various types of equipment for fitting and dismantling.
• Sets up equipment and performs all kind of welding in all positions on all kinds and types of materials.
• Uses burning equipment and handheld plasma cutter as required.
• Preheats, post heats and flame anneals parts and welds as directed.
• Able to understand and calculate degrees and angles.
• Builds up surface or areas by welding.
• Makes templates as needed.
• Be able to effectively perform tig, stick, and mig welding.
• Cleans, chips and grinds parts, welds and weldments.
• Performs pressure testing.
• Does fitting of valves, gas nozzles, air tubes, etc.
• Completes physical and electronic records including timekeeping, time spent on each job, HR, quality, and safety.
• Makes minor repairs and adjustments to machines and equipment.
• Marks pieces, weldments and reports as required.
• Maintains equipment and work area in safe, clean and orderly condition.
• Inspects and verifies fit-up, alignment, dimensions, angles, weld preparation, and completed assemblies against engineering drawings and specifications using appropriate measuring tools.
• Performs welding in accordance with applicable Welding Procedure Specifications, work instructions, and quality requirements.
• Visually inspects completed welds and identifies and corrects weld defects within established procedures and requirements.
• Be able to identify drawing, material, fit-up, and fabrication discrepancies and escalate as needed.
• Uses cranes, hoists and appropriate rigging practices.
• Follows established safety procedures and uses required personal protective equipment (PPE) when performing welding, cutting, hot work, material handling, and other fabrication activities, including the safe use of compressed gases, welding equipment, cranes, and other tools and equipment.
• Performs butterfly step-seat welds in accordance with applicable drawings, specifications, welding procedures, and quality requirements, ensuring proper fit-up, alignment, weld profile, and finished dimensions.
• Operates powered industrial trucks, including forklifts and walk-behind trucks, to safely move, position, load, and unload materials and components in accordance with established safety procedures and required training.
