We're looking for an exceptional Fleet Workshop Manager to lead Royal Mail's flagship fleet maintenance facility at the Midlands Super Hub. This brand-new, purpose-built operation includes a 16-bay workshop, a 24-hour maintenance operation and an on-site Authorised Testing Facility, making it one of the largest and most advanced HGV, trailer and commercial vehicle maintenance workshops in the UK.

This is a rare opportunity to lead a landmark fleet engineering and maintenance operation and shape its culture, standards and performance. Leading approximately 60 colleagues and managing a budget of around £10 million, you'll establish the workshop as a benchmark for vehicle maintenance, fleet compliance and engineering excellence across the Royal Mail network.

About the Role

This highly visible senior leadership role demands an exceptional operational leader with significant experience in an HGV and trailer maintenance environment, capable of leading a large, complex operation while delivering outstanding performance across safety, compliance, quality, cost and vehicle availability.

Reporting to the Area Fleet Maintenance Manager, you'll have overall accountability for the safe, compliant and efficient performance of the Midlands Super Hub Workshop.

You'll work closely with senior stakeholders across Fleet and Operations, influencing decisions that affect both local performance and wider fleet strategy. As the leader of Royal Mail's flagship fleet maintenance facility, you'll play a key role in establishing the standards, culture and ways of working that will help shape the future of Fleet maintenance across the wider network.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead a safe and legally compliant workshop, ensuring vehicles, colleagues and premises meet Royal Mail, DVSA and wider regulatory standards.
• Deliver maintenance services across a complex 24-hour operation, maximising vehicle and trailer availability while meeting internal customer service levels.
• Manage a budget of around £10 million, using resource planning, forecasting and performance insight to control costs and improve efficiency.
• Provide visible leadership to approximately 60 colleagues, building capability through clear communication, coaching and performance management.
• Lead the implementation of operational change, ISO 9001 quality standards and continuous improvement across the workshop.
• Build influential relationships with senior stakeholders, operational customers and trade union partners to resolve issues and deliver sustainable performance.

About You

You're an established fleet maintenance leader with significant experience managing large-scale HGV and trailer workshop operations. You can balance strategic leadership with a strong understanding of day-to-day maintenance delivery, remaining visible and credible with technical teams while influencing senior business stakeholders.

You'll be comfortable leading a complex multi-shift operation and making decisions that affect safety, compliance, cost and vehicle availability. You bring the energy and resilience to establish high standards, lead people through change and create a culture built on accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement.

What You'll Bring

• Significant leadership experience within a large HGV and trailer maintenance environment, ideally involving complex or multi-shift workshop operations.
• A recognised advanced technical qualification, at least IMI Level 3 in Light or Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair, or an equivalent qualification.
• Strong knowledge of vehicle compliance, road transport legislation, roadworthiness and DVSA requirements, with ATF experience desirable.
• Experience managing substantial budgets, resources and performance across safety, quality, cost, people and customer measures.
• A strong track record of leading, coaching and developing teams through operational change and performance improvement.
• Excellent stakeholder and industrial relations capability, with the confidence to represent a major operation at senior level.

A full driving licence is required. Experience mobilising or establishing a new workshop operation would be advantageous.

Role Impact

The Midlands Super Hub Workshop is a strategically important part of Royal Mail's Fleet operation. You'll be responsible for a 16-bay, 24-hour maintenance facility, an on-site Authorised Testing Facility, approximately 60 colleagues and a budget of around £10 million.

Your leadership will directly influence fleet safety, legal compliance, maintenance quality, cost performance and the availability of vehicles and trailers supporting the wider operation. You'll also have the opportunity to establish working practices and performance standards that can influence Fleet maintenance across the wider network.

The next stage of the selection process will be a face to face interview consisting of competency based and role specific questions along with a senior manager scenarios exercise. We plan to hold interviews on w/c 5th October at MSH.
