FORWARD DEPLOYED DATA ENGINEER

ABOUT THE COMPANY

EROAD is a global fleet management technology company, delivering GPS tracking, video telematics, compliance automation and driver safety tools to fleet operators across New Zealand, Australia and North America, and we're growing our Data Platform team to put data engineering talent directly in front of our strategic North American customers. We're hiring a Forward Deployed Data Engineer to sit within that team and own the technical relationship with those customers day to day.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

This role blends hands-on data engineering with direct customer ownership, from first workshop through to delivered solution.

- Lead discovery workshops with customers to understand their business problems firsthand
- Present findings and solution approaches to both technical teams and executive stakeholders
- Translate business problems into scoped data, analytics and AI solutions
- Build and prototype applied AI use cases directly with customers
- Own engagements end to end, including scoping, estimates and risk management
- Work closely with Sales, Product and Engineering to shape and deliver customer solutions

WHAT YOU NEED

You'll bring solid data engineering depth alongside real comfort operating in front of customers.

- 5+ years of hands-on data engineering or analytics engineering experience
- Strong SQL skills
- Experience with a cloud data warehouse, Snowflake preferred, or equivalent hands-on depth on another modern cloud data warehouse
- Python or another relevant programming language
- Experience with dbt or an equivalent transformation framework
- Solid data quality and governance practices
- Git-based development and CI/CD experience
- Strong customer-facing communication skills, comfortable presenting to executive audiences
- Power BI dashboard-building experience is a plus
- Prior experience in professional services, solutions engineering or technical consulting is a plus
- Experience with Snowflake Secure Data Sharing or customer data integration is a plus
- Streaming or near-real-time data experience is a plus
- Background in transportation, telematics, logistics, compliance or cold-chain, or familiarity with North American fleet operations, is a plus
