About this role

As an Amazon Worldwide (WW) Workplace Health & Safety (WHS) Ground Gas Specialist you will be responsible for all aspects of supporting one of the safest real estate programs in the world! You will partner with various stakeholders and teams around the world to support ground gas mitigation program development and ongoing facility management including standards and policy development, implementation, and execution.

To be successful in this role, you will possess exceptional organizational and communication skills and be able to send clear, concise and consistent messages, both verbally and in writing. You will have extensive ground gas experience, mitigation system experience including risk assessment, design, construction, operations, maintenance, and monitoring (OMM), understand the regulatory environment, and demonstrate this expertise when working with internal and external teams.

This role will be based in the EU and travel up to 50% of the time.


Key job responsibilities
• Provide a single point of contact to internal teams to develop, understand, and execute Amazon’s ground gas program in Europe.
• Complete due diligence reviews of properties to assess ground gas risk.
• Complete reviews of mitigation system designs, construction plans, and construction verification, startup testing, and OMM data.
• Inspect and/or oversee field personnel inspecting systems during construction, startup, and operation to evaluate conditions and confirm design and operating assumptions
• Oversee and direct field personnel providing OMM including developing scopes of work, coordinating and scheduling OMM events, evaluating field reports, and acting-on and implementing follow-up actions.
• Support legal, property owner, construction management, preconstruction management, consulting, transaction management, business leadership, and facility operations teams and partners on ground gas risks and intrusion mitigation systems, and operations, maintenance, and monitoring (OMM).
• Support and train a wide range of facility operations teams and partners on mitigation systems, monitoring equipment, and OMM.
• Review work performed by contractors, developers, and consultants.
• Prioritize and lead multiple projects and assignments concurrently.
• Represent Amazon at appropriate levels with property owners and their representatives, consultants, and legal advisors to maintain professional and effective relationships.
• Travel throughout EU

Basic Qualifications

- Experience in compliance, audit or risk management
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office products and applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Visio, and MS Project) at an advanced level
- A Bachelor degree (or equivalent level of qualification in line with the European Qualifications Framework) in Geology, Environmental Science, Chemistry, Chemical or Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Process Engineering, or related field of study.
- Proven experience serving as an environmental technical resource, program specialist, or project manager with a demonstrable focus on ground gas
- Experience in development and implementation of standards, policies, and programs with a demonstrable focus on ground gas and vapour intrusion.
- Possess knowledge and experience regarding the operation, maintenance, and/or monitoring of a variety of ground gas / vapour intrusion systems (ideally including remote monitoring equipment).
- A Bachelor degree (or equivalent level of qualification in line with the European Qualifications Framework) in Geology, Environmental Science, Chemistry, Chemical or Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Process Engineering, or related field of study.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience leveraging technology and implementing lean principles / Six Sigma methodologies to drive process improvements or equivalent
- Master's degree or equivalent
- Master's degree or above
- Experience using English communication skills, both written and verbal, to foster seamless interaction with stakeholders at all levels
- Experience in written and verbal communication skills to communicate with technical and non-technical audiences, including senior leadership
- Experience working with a matrixed team of stakeholders to achieve a common goal or equivalent
- Experience working with fast-moving, high-performance teams and driving innovative solutions tailored to unique business environments
- Can manage a high volume of requests and competing deadlines
- Speak, write, and read fluently in German
- The ability to design, oversee construction, and manage ground gas and vapour intrusion systems internationally.
- The ability to synthesize large amounts of information into focused conclusions.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
