Role Overview

Reporting to the COO, you will lead FPH’s Health, Safety and Systems function, setting the direction for health, safety, wellbeing, return to work and business management systems across the Group.

You will lead a specialist team and partner with leaders across the business to strengthen safety culture, improve systems and controls, and support safe, compliant and efficient operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the Health, Safety and Systems team, creating clear priorities, strong capability and a practical business partnering approach;

  • Partner with the COO, Executive and operational leaders to provide trusted advice and assurance across WHS, rail safety and business excellence;

  • Oversee FPH’s WHS and Rail Safety Management Systems and Business Excellence Framework, driving continuous improvement in systems, controls and operational performance;

  • Lead early intervention, return to work and key safety and wellbeing initiatives to support sustainable outcomes for our people;

  • Oversee complex audits, investigations and inspections, ensuring risks, control gaps and corrective actions are effectively managed;

  • Strengthen contractor safety and work with key internal teams to support training, competency, psychosocial health and leadership capability;

  • Translate strategy and business priorities into clear plans, projects and measures, while managing the function’s budget and resources effectively; and

  • Provide high-quality Board and Committee reporting and represent the function with regulators and other key stakeholders.

About you

Your skills and experience will include:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in safety, risk management or equivalent experience;

  • Senior safety leadership experience in a complex operational or industrial environment, with ports or logistics experience highly regarded;

  • Strong knowledge of WHS and Return to Work legislation, relevant ISO standards and contemporary risk management practices;

  • Demonstrated experience leading safety professionals and improving WHS, Return to Work and quality management systems;

  • The ability to influence senior leaders, translate strategy into practical priorities and lead change and continuous improvement; and

  • RTWSA-approved Return to Work Coordinator, Lead Investigator and Lead Auditor qualifications, plus a current Driver’s Licence; ChOHSP is desirable.
