About this role

PIB Group is a fast-growing, specialist insurance intermediary and distribution consolidator and are looking for a Group Technical Accounting Manager who will be responsible for leading and coordinating technical accounting matters across the Group. The role will provide subject-matter expertise on complex accounting areas, support the delivery of high‑quality Group and holding company financial reporting, and act as a key point of contact for auditors and advisers on technical issues. The role reports directly to the Group Head of Financial Reporting.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Own and maintain the Group’s technical accounting policies (primarily under IFRS and relevant UK GAAP/Companies Act requirements) and ensure consistent application across entities.
  • Prepare high‑quality technical accounting papers for management, auditors and the Board on complex or judgemental areas.
  • Own the effective interest rate (EIR) models for Group debt, including the impact of debt modifications, PIK options and other complex terms.
  • Lead acquisition accounting for new business combinations, including identification and valuation of intangibles, contingent consideration and goodwill.
  • Advise on and account for Group restructurings, legal entity rationalisations and intra‑group transfers, including any common‑control or capital reorganisation transactions.
  • Oversee the Group’s foreign exchange accounting, including functional currency assessments, translation of foreign operations and FX hedge accounting where applicable.
  • Own the accounting for share‑based payment schemes (including management incentive plans, options and other equity/ cash‑settled awards) under IFRS 2.
  • Ensure appropriate recognition of charges and clear disclosure of schemes, assumptions and sensitivities.
  • Oversee the Group’s IFRS 16 models and processes, including use of CCH Tagetik or other tools.
  • Lead the Group’s implementation of IFRS 18, including impact assessment, policy development and changes to primary statements and notes.
  • Support preparation and review of Group and holding company statutory financial statements, including technical areas, disclosures and narrative reporting.
  • Oversee the accounting for intercompany loans and balances, including alignment with Treasury systems (e.g. Kyriba) and automation of interest calculations.
  • Act as a key point of contact for the Group’s auditors on technical accounting matters, including acquisitions, earn‑outs, complex financing and provisions.
  • Strengthen controls and documentation around key technical accounting judgements and estimates.

What we’re looking for:

  • Qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA or equivalent), with strong post‑qualification experience in technical accounting.
  • Background in a large practice (e.g. audit or technical advisory) and/or a complex, multi‑entity Group environment is strongly preferred.
  • Deep, hands‑on experience in several of the following:
  • Business combinations and acquisition accounting.
  • Complex debt and effective interest rate calculations.
  • Foreign exchange and consolidation of international operations.
  • Share‑based payments (IFRS 2) and IFRS 16 leasing.
  • Group restructurings and intra‑group transactions.
  • Strong understanding of IFRS and UK Companies Act requirements; exposure to UK GAAP/FRC guidance beneficial.
  • Proven experience working with auditors and external advisers on complex transactions and models.
  • Excellent analytical skills, attention to detail and ability to handle multiple complex workstreams to tight deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical issues clearly to non‑specialists and to prepare concise technical papers.
  • Proactive, collaborative and comfortable working across Group finance, treasury, tax, legal and local finance teams.
